My Story

Gemma is a sweet, happy girl who came to rescue as an owner surrender to a local shelter. She is such good girl who is patiently waiting for her PYRfect family. She is a Pyr-lover’s dream, as she is crate trained, learning to walk on a leash without pulling, and knows how to “sit” and “down” for a treat. She was even fine when introduced to the cats – but when she saw one run, she did show interest in chasing. Gemma greets other dogs with a tail wag, getting along great with all of them; however she is not a player, so any dogs in her new home would simply be companions. She would also be fine as an only dog, happy to give all her attention to her people. She is very comfortable in the home. She also enjoys exploring in the yard and is happy to join in to “help” if the other dogs are barking. She would do great with a family who wants to take her everywhere as she will hop right up into the car when the door is opened, eager to join her people! This girl was so underweight when she first came into rescue, so she prefers to eat in privacy so she can take her time and not need to worry. She has truly flourished since coming to NGPR – not only thru weight gain and her coat growing back beautifully, but her personality just shines! Her ideal home will have a 5’ fenced yard, and will be with a family who has plenty of love, time, and treats to continue her training. She sure is going to love having a home and family to call her own! NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
