My Story

George is a tender, handsome dog with a huge presence who is eager to find his forever home. He is approximately 4.5 yrs old and came to the shelter after having been a "farm dog" for about 4 years. When he arrived, he was extremely malnourished and his fur was in very bad shape. He was surrendered for a combination of reasons: his owner was in poor health and couldn't care for him, and he also had a history of chasing the postman away. George walks very well on a leash and is only somewhat housetrained. While he poos outside consistently, he is known to pee on his blankets and comforters even just after having been let outside. He’s gained weight steadily since arrival and has developed a healthy appetite. He also had a haircut just to remove the matts, but could definitely use a fresh groom! He does exhibit signs of separation anxiety, and would do well in a home where someone is there full-time. He loves when our volunteers spend time with him, even if they are just lounging together in his kennel. George's time at the shelter has been full of good meals, lots of affection and playtime in the yard, but it hasn't been without incident: recently when our shelter veterinarian was trying to restrain him for bloodwork, George snapped at him, tried to bite and narrowly missed. So far he’s been tolerant of all other veterinary care, including vaccines and neuter surgery. George needs a home that can accommodate his size and special needs. Call (419) 294-4477 to schedule! WCHS Adoptions are a 2-Step Process Step 1— Visit our shelter! (Appointments Required) The animal of your choice will be reserved for you at the time of scheduling. (Prospective adopters may be shown multiple animals, subject to availability.) Step 2— Pick up your new pet! Pickups are generally 3-5 business days after completing adoption paperwork at your in-person appointment. This allows HOPE Clinic time to prep your new pet for their forever home, including spay/neuter surgery (if not already fixed), a microchip, vaccines, and other care depending on the species. Once the animal is ready, we'll call you to coordinate pickup! (Pickup times are generally in the evenings.) *Return Policy: If an adopter cannot keep an adopted pet for any reason, the animal must be returned to WCHS. Because of our strict return policy, adoptions to homes more than 100 miles away will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
