My Story

Sweet Gigi, a beautiful fawn-colored terrier mix, delivered 6 perfect little babies on September 20, 2024. She was all alone in a grassy field but found a way to poke her head through a broken fence to get help. A good Samaritan saw her and could tell she had recently delivered pups. Sure enough, six newborns were found and the finder set up a nursery in her spare bedroom so Gigi and her pups could be safe. Gigi was the best loving mom and took care of her pups until they were thriving. All six were taken by another rescue and will be adopted to good homes up North. But Gigi, who is described as “practically perfect” by her foster mom, is still waiting for her happy ending. She is estimated to be about 45 lbs and two years old. Gigi is very loving and friendly once she becomes familiar with someone but is not demanding or needy. She has a moderate energy level and gets along with other dogs. She does like to chase the foster’s cat so a home without felines is preferred. She has achieved a healthy weight, is microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. Unfortunately, her past neglect has left her positive for heartworm but the rescue is covering all the expenses of her treatment and will soon get her spayed as well. Gigi’s foster mom says Gigi is best described as a “family dog” – but she is still searching for a family! Might you be the one to offer her a forever home? PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to please visit our website to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt **Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, question, or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information. 2022 Adoption Fee Scale for non-benefactor animals: Puppies under 12 months - $350 Dogs over 12 months - $250 *Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters in Southeast Louisiana, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it’s the perfect match! For additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets, see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq *Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed.
