My Story
Gina is an affectionate and silly 3 month old chihuahua mix that weighs 4 lbs. She is estimated to be around 15-20 lbs once she is full grown. This social butterfly is extremely outgoing and just loves to make new friends. She is the epitome of a "boob dog" and if she could spend all day being carried around by her human, she would surely enjoy it. Besides being super sweet, she is also super silly. She loves to chase her foster mom's feet and grab onto her pant legs when Gina thinks she's walking too fast for her little legs to keep up. Once her foster mom stops walking, Gina puts on a big silly smile on her face and motions to be picked up. She always wants to be part of the action and follows the resident dogs around to investigate what they're up to. This brave little girl always enjoys exploring the yard to see if she can find the perfect stick to chew on before she hops on the porch to sunbathe. She is her foster mom's shadow and really wants to be wherever she is. During the work day, you can usually find her snuggled up on her foster mom's lap, and sometimes even sits upright like a human next to her in her work chair. Gina's ideal family would be a good mix of fun and laid back, and that wants a dog that is always up for an adventure but can also wind down to have lazy days lounging around the house.
Gina is low to medium energy, and is the perfect mix of couch potato and active. She is usually the first one in her litter to initiate playtime and always is the first one down for nap time. She does have small spurts of puppy energy that she will quickly burn by doing zoomies around the house and backyard, but she quickly winds down after a few minutes of running around. She loves toys that she can chew on and also toys that are meant for much bigger dogs than herself. She will carry them around and wrestle with the toys that are bigger than she is. She would love to have a BarkBox subscription so that she gets new toys every month since she does like to pull the stuffing out if one of the resident dogs starts the hole in a toy for her. When she's not playing with her toys, she also enjoys playing with the resident dogs in her foster home and her two sisters. She is obsessed with trying to give the senior pittie sweet puppy kisses, so she will follow her around and stand on her tippy toes to try to reach her face. Eventually she would love to go on leisurely walks around the neighborhood and on nature trails once she perfects her leash training. She is the type of pup that really enjoys being with her human, so whatever her human wants to do, she is happy to join.
Gina is dog, cat and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with dogs ranging in age from 3 months old to 12 years old, and sizes from 5 lbs to 85 lbs. She loves them all, but is particularly fond of the senior pittie and finds every reason to sneak her sweet puppy kisses. She has learned boundaries, proper doggy communication skills, and appropriate ways to engage in play from the older dogs. She would benefit from having another dog in her foster home as she loves to follow their lead and learn by observing their behavior. Her sweet, silly temperament would be perfect for a family with older kids. Because she loves to chase feet and latch onto pant legs/shoes when people are walking, younger children may not be the best option as she may cause a small toddler to trip over her, and due to her size, it could cause injury to her. She has not yet been introduced to cats, but this sweet girl loves everyone and will be able to acclimate into a home with a dog-friendly cat with proper introductions.
Gina is potty trained and kennel trained, and has started working on leash training. With a consistent schedule and frequent potty breaks she will not have an accident in the house, but will use a potty pad by the back door if she has to go and isn't let outside in time. She will alert you when she needs to potty by barking or whining, so you have plenty of notice to get to the backdoor to let her outside. She will sleep in a kennel at night and prefers it to be in the same room as her human when she falls sleep. She can make it through the whole night without needing to potty, but if she wakes up and needs to go, she will let you know by barking and hitting the kennel door with her paw. When she gets a little bigger, she would really love to sleep in bed with her human so that she can get in some extra cuddles while you sleep. She will still need additional leash training to master her skills once she goes to her forever home and because she loves to investigate the world around her she should be able to master it in no time, but she's also perfectly happy being carried by her human in the meantime if needed on walks.
Gina's ideal home would be a home with a backyard that she can run around, pay and explore in. She would also do well in an apartment or townhome as well with a human that works from home and she gets frequent potty breaks and play time. She can be a bit vocal when she is excited and playing, so that is something to consider if you live in an apartment/townhouse with shared walls. She would love to have another friendly, playful dog in her forever home, but she is perfectly fine being the only dog as long as she gets to have puppy play dates and her human works primarily from home or on a hybrid schedule. She would love some younger humans to play and share her sweet puppy kisses with, but would do best with older kids. Because she is so small and breakable, it is recommended that the kids in her forever home are familiar with handling tiny dogs and can respect their boundaries. Gina would be a great companion for someone who works from home because she loves to curl up on her foster mom's lap as she works and really loves being with her human.
If you are interested in adopting Gina, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application.
Gina is in a foster home in Central Texas and will be transported once adopted. She is too small/young to be spayed at this time, so she will have a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit on top of her adoption and transport fees. Once she is old enough to be spayed, the deposit will be paid directly to your vet before her procedure.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.
The total cost to adopt is $830, which includes a $400 adoption fee, a $230 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
