Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, the often become very bonded. *** MAY NEED TO VISIT MORE THAN ONCE FOR DOG TO FEEL COMFORTABLE *** OTHER PETS: Gremlin does not like other dogs or cats, he should be the only pet in the residence. [Should Be Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone who has owned a timid dog before, or someone with patience who is willing to commit to learning how to best support Gremlin would be his best fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Gremlin is an adults only dog due to his severe dislike of handling compounded by his chicken little personality. His best fit would be with a single adult where he could be the center of their world, but he is taking applications from any adult who thinks they are up to his standards. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Gremlin's ideal place is next to or in his person's lap. He is occasionally playful but at heart he is a lap dog who just wants someone to love his grumpy self. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Gremlin bond with his new owner as well as helping him learn basic skills. Positive reinforcement training is a great activity that builds trust and confidence. Learning new tricks is a wonderful way to keep him engaged even after he settles into his new home. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Gremlin's coat clean and matt-free, if he were to get matted a professional groomer would be able to get him comfortable and clean again.
