My Story

We chalk the Groot Situation up to the sad fact that some folks should not raise a puppy. It is astounding that this adorable boy should wind up in NYCACC as an older puppy. He was frightened and shut down when we picked him up, and he broke our hearts. Now, after sometime in the Connecticut country, Groot has reclaimed his puppy mojo. He is a joyous little character at two years old, who gets along with all people and other dogs. While he may be shy with strangers at first, he warms quickly to gentle touch.  We figure Groot to be a Miniature Pinscher. He has classic red Min Pin coloring with a splatter of white on his chest, and his ears and tail are blissfully uncropped giving him that enviable au naturale look. Just 18 pounds, Groot has the leggy Min Pin physique. He is built for action and agility! Groot is a high energy youngster, who loves to play. He has a comical personality and will surely inspire a giggle or two. Groot socializes well with a wide variety of breeds in all sizes. He has a fairly neutral temperament that would coexist well in a multi-dog home, but cats might entice him to chase. Groot would do well with an active single or couple. He had no formal obedience work in his previous home, but seemed quick to grasp the basics here, and is easy to handle. He walks well on leash, and has generally good house manners.  Groot would benefit from ongoing leadership and obedience work to facilitate the bonding process, and to clue him into adopter expectations. He would relish the activity and attention. Groot is house trained and crate trained, although, savvy adopters will forgive him for an occasional "oops" in the spirit of rescue adaptation. He can become fussy in the crate if left alone too long. Groot is in good health and at a healthy weight, which should be maintained at about 18 pounds. He has been neutered, and is up to date on routine vaccinations and health screenings.  If you are interested in Groot, please write to [email protected] or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.
