My Story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600 Gumdrop is a 4 month old German Shepherd mix ready to bring all the sweetness to her forever home! Gumdrop was found abandoned in Central California with three small dogs. We have no clue how she ended up with her little pack and how they were forgotten, but we knew we couldn't let her end up in the shelter. We took her into the rescue and it's been lollipops and rainbows ever since. Gumdrop currently weighs 20 pounds, so we suspect she will be in the medium-large size range when she reaches adulthood. Come get your sweet treat and meet Miss Gumdrop! Gumdrop is a happy and adorable puppy who's ready to enter the candy shop and pick you off the shelf! She greeted her rescuers with kisses and cuddles within a minute of meeting them and since then she's been winning hearts wherever she goes! Gumdrop loves her toys and has enjoyed the backyard in her foster home. It has been a joy to see her learn how to be a puppy and zoom across the yard with a toy in her mouth as her tail wags a mile a minute. Her favorite toys so far are tennis balls and rope toys, but we imagine she would be thrilled to discover a toy box full of new surprises just for her in her forever home. Gumdrop would be a fabulous addition to an active home. We can tell she would take on a morning jog or a weekend hike with ease. As long as you're by her side, there's no limit to what she can accomplish. Gumdrop is also super smart and very food motivated, which if you ask us is the perfect puppy combo! She'll be the star of any training class she enrolls in as she impresses everyone with her perfect manners. Gumdrop is just so excited to tackle her bucket list and once she finds you, she's off to the races! Gumdrop sleeps in her crate overnight and wakes up around 6 AM when her foster mom starts her day. She eats breakfast at 7 AM and then spends the morning romping around the yard making sure no new sniffs have arrived since she last checked. She's pretty good at keeping herself entertained during the day but is always up for a game of fetch or a snuggle. She has lunch at 12 PM and dinner at 5 PM. When everyone finishes work for the day, she drops a tennis ball in your lap like "ok, playtime"! Once she's gotten her energy out, she goes out for one last potty before bed around 10 PM. Gumdrop would thrive in a home with a playful resident dog as she is very playful. She does very well when she meets new people and wants to make everyone her new best friend. Gumdrop walks very well on a leash and greets everyone politely. Interested homes should be prepared to continue training and socialization. Hop on down to the DPS gingerbread house and pick out a Gumdrop! Gumdrop is only an option for homes with previous experience with large breed dogs. Kids should be over the age of 8.
