My Story

You might remember Hank from last May, when he came through as an abandonment case, found tied to a gate at one of our local shelters. One of our longtime fosters was up for the challenge and took on Hank. And he proved to be an absolute gem. He did great with their dog, and was a good boy as well as “the easiest one we’ve ever fostered for SPDR.” A home from our waitlist was interested in adopting and we had a match! But, three months later, we learned that Hank needed to be rehomed. The adopter was moving to a new situation where Hank wouldn’t work out. He has a lot of prey drive and was too much for the cat in the home (and the new home had several cats that lived on the property), and he was also very, very interested in the horses (although he initially did well with them), and the new home had even more horses on the property. Thankfully his foster home was able to take him back and after a day or so, he’s settled in and once again doing very well with them. Hank is a great dog! He LOVES other dogs, and did well with his adopter’s other dog (and visitor dogs on the property) and does well with his foster sister as well (and dog visitors to their property as well). Another dog of the same general age and size, would be a great benefit to Hank – he loves to play and loves the steadying effect of another dog in the home. He's crate trained and sleeps in his crate just fine, although does very well when left loose too. And he LOVES to play ball. At first it seemed he was more comfortable outside, but he's getting used to being inside with everyone and loves the attention. He's a very sweet dog with a lovely temperament. He gets nervous when he's unsure of things, and is learning to become less jumpy about things - he's had a lot to adjust to in the past few months! He's doing great, and is very cuddly. He knows "Sit" and is learning indoor manners and how to be calm. Hank has some basic obedience and the foster home is working with him to improve his skills. He tends to pull on leash, but a gentle leader helps with calming him and getting him to listen. He’s a sweet boy who’s still learning engagement skills with his humans, and would do best in a home where the adopter is willing to keep working on the basics with him. He acts like a dog who’s never had anyone who’s “cared” to connect with him, and, like most Rottweilers, it’s what he craves the most. So, are you ready for a sweet boy who’s ready to be your best boi? Apply to adopt this handsome fella: https://forms.spdrdogs.org/Adoption/ Washington State - no interstate transports.
