My Story

Hazel – A seven-month-old Italian Greyhound puppy in TX Hazel’s owners have been providing Hazel with a wonderful, loving home, but have come to the difficult conclusion that she is “far too active” for them. This is Hazel’s second home, with her current owners welcoming Hazel when she was approximately six-months old. They did so with the intention of their home being Hazel’s forever home and truly want her to go to someone experienced/educated with the breed who will be offering Hazel the forever home that they planned to give her. Hazel, who will be eight-months old at the end of December and is sixteen pounds, is described as “very sweet and loving” – she loves being in the laps of her people (and also burrowing under blankets), and is basically a “darling” dog. She tends to have a high activity level and is very inquisitive; does a lot of “investigating.” She also engages in Italian Greyhound “zoomies!” Her adopter should want a puppy/dog with a good bit of energy and, since Hazel’s current owner is basically home, a new home with someone primarily home would be ideal. Although Hazel had recent, out-of-character, accidents that are being monitored, she is house trained to potty outside and has been taught to use a bell to communicate her desire to go out. When left alone, Hazel stays in a kennel/crate and does fine when left for a few hours (if left for an extended time-frame, accidents are likely). Hazel is currently living with, and gets along great with, another small dog and has also been fantastic with other dogs she interacts with (she would love a canine companion in a new home). This little one is good with children, but tends to be exuberant and will jump on them. Although responsive to communication from other dogs, Hazel tends to have “selective hearing” with her people – she does pass “the chip bag opening in another room test” with flying colors though! Hazel has a fenced yard, but is also accustomed to being on-leash; her owner shared that they have focused on other training and that Hazel could benefit from on-leash training for walks as she tends to walk “all over or stop in front of the person walking her.” She travels well by car – she is crated for safety and to prevent her from exploring the car while someone is driving. Barking is only occasional, primarily when playing or if a neighboring dog approaches the fence.
