Henney – 5-1/2 years old, located in NJ
PRO ID: 220383-P-B-VA
Intake Date: 02/05/22
Available Date: 12/13/24
Henney (aka Hen, Hen-Hen, Henney Penny – the sky is falling!) is a petite brown and white sweetheart. She is being offered for adoption again through PRO at no fault of her own, due to major changes in her current household. She is heartworm negative and will be up-to-date on all vaccines before transport.
Henney was originally brought to PRO as a hungry stray from Virginia, so not much is known about her history prior to her current home. She is approximately 5.5 years old and is spayed. She has been living for 2.5 years in a home with 3 older children, a dog, and two cats. While she has done fine in this setting, she clearly prefers adult attention to that of her siblings. At times she has displayed some dominance over the smallest human in the home, ie sitting on her and refusing to get down without an adult intervening. With this in mind, she may do better in a home with fewer siblings to compete with, where she can get more of her favorite person’s attention. She very much wants her mom to attend to her first all the time and will push herself between people and animals in the home, even after lots of practice at sitting and waiting for her turn.
Henney eats in her own space (a mudroom) as she may grumble at other animals who approach her food. Meals are important to her and she will tell you if you are late providing breakfast or dinner. She loves her food, and your food too! Do not leave your burger or pizza unattended, as she may help herself if given the chance.
Henney is joyful and exuberant, leaping through the air one moment and sunbathing in the backyard on a warm day the next. She loves to be curled in a ball one the couch while you watch TV. She is inconsistent with calling back, so a leash is a must in open spaces. Having a fenced yard would be ideal, but she is a good girl on a leash, so daily walks could work for her too. She prefers chasing squirrels and butterflies to playing with toys. Henney is confined in a mudroom space when her family is away from the house or sleeping. If left free range of the house on her own, she may entertain herself by chewing on small items she can access, such as food wrappers, pencils or kids toys. In her own space, she is tidy and more secure.
The most important thing to know about Henney is she very much wants to be loved and to make her humans happy. She very much deserves a loving home where she can get all the pats, treats, and snuggles.
