My Story

Meet Houston! Approximately 7 months old (estimated DOB 3/2024) he is weighing in at 48lbs. (so maybe 65 pounds when full grown) He would love to find a home where he has a playful dog to keep him busy and provide companionship. Plus it never hurts to have an older sibling to continue to show you how great life in the burbs is!! He does bond to humans, but loves his playtime with doggies. He has not met a dog who didn't like him! Probably because he has a good nature - not over bearing - not dominant. He is great with kids, dogs and cats. He is learning boundaries when playing with humans, and doing great with corrections. Experienced/older kids would be best able to work with him. He will freely go inside his kennel and wait patiently to be let out. He is a dog who wants to please, is very food motivated and learning basic commands; sit, stay and (still in the works…) paw. He was very timid when he came to us, but has become a happy and confident pup! He is still learning how to trust people and can be a little cautious, but once he warms up to you, he will trust you and your direction and won't be afraid to show you often that he loves you! If you are interested in Houston, the first step is to go to our website and submit an application. www.PlacingPawsRescue.org BEFORE CONSIDERING A PUPPY FOR ADOPTION: Please keep in mind that puppies need attention during the day. They need frequent potty breaks, playtime, socialization and often a mid day meal. Please consider your daytime schedule before applying for a puppy. SPAY/NEUTER POLICY: Our adoption fee covers the puppies spay or neuter at our vet in Libertyville. If the puppy is adopted prior to the spay or neuter being done you will be required to bring the puppy back to our vet within 30 days for the surgery. ADOPTION FEE: $425.00 The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, HW test if age appropriate, de-worming, microchip, fecal, spay or neuter, Heartworm and flea and tick preventative. ADOPTION PROCESS: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application online at www.placingpawsrescue.org. Once we review the applications, those applicants that are thought to be a good match will be contacted as quickly as possibly. We ask that you please be patient with us as we are all volunteers. Then a telephone interview will take place, references checked and a home visit will be conducted. We will then arrange for you to meet the dog. We require that all family members, including current dogs meet the dog prior to adoption. We put all of the known information in the animals description. If the animal is listed on the website, we are still accepting applications for that animal. We only remove the animal when the final adoption paperwork is signed. The best way to contact us is by email at [email protected]. It is very difficult for the limited numbers of volunteers to return all calls. Thank you.
