Huey

Huey- the name means Mind; Spirit; Intellect. Puppy Huey is GSD smart, adolescent naughty and very sensitive. Don't read on unless you have solid experience working with dogs who need more than the average pup! This handsome boy is approx 4 -5 months old. He came into the shelter the first time as a tiny puppy and was adopted. Smart, vocal, strategic Huey came back to the shelter after two months and that made him really anxious. Adopters said he was too hyper. Huey does not do well in the shelter- he is very vocal. That means Huey can SCREAM when he can't get out . Huey began to bark and lunge at everything that scared him. His ability to learn and unfold outside of the shelter has been a joy. Huey is responsive, inquisitive and very quick to learn as he experiences new things . He is just going into that stage where puppies want to grab and bite things because adult teeth are trying to come in. His first adopters appear to have done a good job with positive reinforcement so Huey understands that his attention brings reward. He is making new friends, learning about dogs and exploring everything from the beach to the shopping center. The key for him is taking time to understand his emotions and then letting him set the pace. Huey WILL need work. He is not going to be a great fit for a starter home. For the lucky person who builds trust with him and helps him navigate these crucial developmental stages Huey is a prize.
