My Story

Meet Iona! Iona is a 6.5-year-old Havanese weighing 13lbs. Iona was rescued from an Amish puppy mill where she was used for breeding, and she is clearly traumatized from being in that environment for the first half of her life. She needs a patient and understanding adopter willing to help this adorable girl realize she is safe. Iona is still learning what it means to "dog," but she's giving it her all! In her foster home, she's surrounded by dogs of all ages and sizes who are helping her figure things out. She's starting to get the hang of playing with toys and occasionally surprises herself with zoomies-though she prefers to do them when she thinks her foster mom isn't looking. Iona will thrive in a calm, quiet household filled with patience and love, giving her the time she needs to bloom into the sweet and loving dog she's meant to be. This resilient girl is on a journey to discover what it truly means to be cherished. Her future family will need a securely fenced yard and a dog of similar size and energy to help guide her and boost her confidence. She's especially fond of the active senior dogs in her foster home. Iona sleeps through the night in her crate and is nearly potty trained, with only the occasional accident. She's making wonderful progress and is ready to find her perfect forever home! If you think you might be the patient adopter this precious girl is waiting for, please complete an adoption application online. Iona is fostered in the Cincinnati area and her adoption fee is $300.00. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
