My Story

Meet Ivy! Ivy (who currently responds to the name Daisy) is a 4-year-old large sized mix-breed and she has the sweetest soul you'll meet and is a true gentle giant. Ivy likes a quiet lifestyle and would be best suited to a family who can complement her calm demeanor. Keeping in mind, it will take her a little longer to settle into her new home. She is wary of people she doesn't know but bonds fiercely to her family once you have earned her trust. Her foster mom doesn't feel the need to crate, however Ivy crates perfectly when asked to. She won't make a peep and will sleep through the night. She actually puts herself in her crate in the middle of the night because it is her safe place. Ivy relies on the company of her humans to reassure her though, so please don't leave her alone too much. She is good with her basic obedience, such as sit, stay, lie down, shake. At the moment, she hasn’t shown herself to be particularly food or toy motivated but with the right application, she has the potential to blossom with further training. Ivy is currently in a foster home with two 7-month-old kittens who mostly leave her alone, and she doesn't pay them much attention either. She hasn't had any interaction with another dog since being in foster, however we are told she is dog friendly as well. Provided they get along at the meet and greet, she'd be happy to share her home with another dog, as long as they don't disturb her ideal serene environment (around her age or older, or young pets with a more lowkey temperament). She would benefit even more if she had a well behaved, polite but outgoing dog to learn from and show her that the world is not so daunting. Ivy is gentle enough that small humans would be safe around her. A home with mature children would be fine for her. It'll be her new owners' responsibility to be her advocate and make sure she is comfortable and happy and create clear physical and emotional boundaries for Ivy, because she's such a darling that she won't fight back on her own. No forced cuddles, chasing, teasing or invading her space. Ivy is not suitable for off-lead play in an unfenced area, as she is startled easily and will run. She doesn't require a lot of exercise. A 30 - 60 minute walk a day will satisfy her (with potty breaks scattered throughout the day too). She walks great on the lead (although be prepared if she gets startled by something, because she will pull to try and get away and due to her size, is quite strong. She shouldn't be walked by anybody, such as a child, who isn't capable of holding her back). Ivy is good with being brushed, which is essential in keeping her wiry coat in top health and manage her shedding, as she is a high shedding dog despite supposedly having the Poodle breed in her mix. Ivy needs a family who will help her with her confidence, be patient and willing to do things in her time and most importantly, love her unconditionally. She will be the loveliest cuddle buddy, as long as you are aware of her sensitivities and don't blame her for sometimes being skittish.
