My Story
Meet Jagger, a spirited and energetic companion with a zest for life that’s truly infectious. This lively fellow approaches every activity with boundless enthusiasm, making each day an adventure. While he’s still learning the art of relaxation, Jagger’s exuberance brings a vibrant energy to any household.
Jagger thrives on companionship and can become anxious when left alone. His ideal home includes a canine companion who matches his size and energy level—someone who can keep up with his playful antics and help him burn off that abundant energy. He loves engaging in games of chase and wrestling with his foster fur siblings, though his play style can be a bit rough-and-tumble. Therefore, a doggy friend who is patient yet assertive, capable of setting boundaries without aggression, would be the perfect match for him.
When it comes to human interaction, Jagger is initially cautious, especially around new people and men. However, once he forms a bond, he becomes deeply attached, often following his chosen person around and checking in frequently. He has a charming habit of placing his paws on your legs to gaze lovingly into your eyes, seeking reassurance and connection. His loyalty is unwavering, and with time and patience, he blossoms into a devoted companion.
Jagger’s high energy and intelligence mean he benefits greatly from regular physical exercise and mental stimulation. He enjoys chewing on Nylabones and chasing toys in the yard, always eager to emulate his canine companions and learn from them. However, he is still mastering basic manners and commands, so an adopter with experience in dog training would be ideal to guide him toward becoming his best self.
It’s important to note that Jagger has a strong flight response when frightened or nervous. He has been known to jump over baby gates and find creative ways to escape situations that make him uncomfortable. Therefore, a secure environment and vigilant supervision are essential to ensure his safety.
Due to his rough play style and initial nervousness, Jagger has not been exposed to children. He would do best in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy teenagers who can respect his boundaries and participate in his ongoing training. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Jagger’s journey has not been without challenges, but his resilience and capacity for love are truly inspiring. He may require a bit of extra patience and understanding, but the reward is a loyal, affectionate, and spirited companion who will bring joy and excitement to your life. If you’re an experienced dog owner ready to invest time, love, and training into a remarkable dog, Jagger is eager to meet you and start his next adventure.
Jagger is diligently working on his potty training and is making steady progress each day. Currently, he is about 70% there, with his training being managed through the use of a belly band. While he goes outside frequently, he doesn’t always relieve himself during these outings. Notably, he consistently poops outside, which is a positive step forward.
Jagger is comfortable wearing a belly band, which helps manage any indoor accidents. He can hold his bladder overnight if he remains in bed; however, if he gets up and starts wandering around, he may have accidents inside the house. T o mitigate this, it’s beneficial to restrict his water intake in the morning before leaving for work.
When it comes to crating, Jagger does well for limited periods, typically up to six hours. He is crated while his foster mom is at work. During this time, he may express his displeasure by crying and screaming, whether he’s gated in an area or kenneled. Monitoring via camera has shown that he remains distressed throughout the day. To help him calm down, administering his anxiety medication along with Benadryl (which also manages his allergies) has proven effective.
Despite these measures, he has occasionally peed inside his crate, likely due to a combination of factors, including not going potty in the morning because he’s so busy flying around, drinking too much water, and getting super worked up. He must stay focused outside to ensure he pees to avoid any further accidents.
Jagger has demonstrated the ability to jump over baby gates, so ensuring his safety and containment requires careful planning. He has not been aggressive but can be a rough and rowdy guy, necessitating supervision and continued training to improve his manners. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be patient and willing to continue working on Jagger’s potty training as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Providing him with a consistent routine, positive reinforcement, and understanding will be key to his continued success in this area.
Jagger’s progress in potty training is a testament to his intelligence and willingness to learn. With continued guidance and support, he is well on his way to becoming fully house-trained, ready to share his love, companionship and a human bed with his forever family.
Medically, Jagger is in good health! He has been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, nares widened, tonsils removed, palate shortened, had a dental with extractions, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Jagger has a restricted esophagus which makes keeping food down without regurgitation challenging. He easily and happily eats standing up a baby gate and being hand fed his daily meal. Jagger welcomes his lap and cuddle time post meals and relaxes sitting up in his foster moms lap for 25mins to ensure the food reaches his belly. This method has proven to be very successful and allows Jagger to eat without problems. There has been significant trial and error to find the right food for Jagger. Pet fresh (which is readily available at most pet stores, T arget, Walmart and Costco; they have the best price) is the only food he has kept down with success! His monthly food cost is around $125.
Due to Jagger’s restlessness in general, a Bailey chair type tool has not been tried as his foster mom found the above method to work for her. His adoptive home may find another method that works; there are several options to have him eat and sit upright! Jagger does suffer from this pesky Frenchie allergies. He will benefit from daily OTC allergy pill and a cytopoint injection during high allergy months.
Jagger is a spirited and energetic companion seeking a dedicated forever home that can match his zest for life. A tall, fully fenced yard is essential for Jagger, as he loves to run and play, and his adventurous spirit makes him a flight risk. He thrives in the company of other dogs, especially those that share his energy level and can gently teach him boundaries.
His ideal adopter would be an active, patient, and loving individual, preferably a woman, as Jagger tends to be more comfortable around women. Men willing to invest time and effort into building trust can also form a rewarding bond with him. Jagger’s high energy and sensitivity require an owner experienced in dog behavior, ready to provide consistent training and guidance. A calm and understanding approach is crucial, as he does not respond well to fear or nervousness.
Due to his anxiety, Jagger cannot be left alone for extended periods. A part-time or full-time stay-at-home or work-from-home family member would be ideal to meet his needs and maintain his structured routine. His daily regimen includes anxiety medications, allergy pills, along with a specific feeding schedule that requires about 35 minutes once daily, not including medication administration two hours prior to meals. Consistency in this routine is vital to his well-being.
Jagger’s high energy and tendency to bark make apartment living unsuitable. He is not well-suited for households with young children, as he requires focused attention and a tranquil environment to continue his progress. While he has made significant strides, he is still a work in progress and will benefit from an owner committed to ongoing training and socialization.
In return for your patience and love, Jagger offers unwavering loyalty and affection. He has a playful spirit and, with the right guidance, will continue to blossom into a well-mannered companion. His journey has been challenging, but with a dedicated and understanding adopter, Jagger is poised to become the loving and joyful dog he is meant to be.
