Strangers:A bit shy at first, but then friendly Training Needs: Crate Trained:No, but working on it! Potty Trained:No, but working on it! Hi, I’m Janet! I’m a fun-loving, playful Shepherd mix weighing about 30 lbs. I absolutely love being around other dogs and having a good time. I’ve even met a 9-year-old kid on a walk and did great! I can be a little shy at first when meeting new people, but once I warm up, I’m friendly and affectionate. I’m working hard on my training—I just learned “sit” and “down,” and I’m getting better at leash walking every day. I’ll need some help with commands like “stay” and “wait” since I have a lot of energy, but I’m eager to learn! I am working on potty training (with an occasional accident) and learning to accept being crated, although I prefer when my foster is close by. Sometimes, I get a little anxious when left alone, but I do settle after a while. I love chew toys, especially soft ones or rope textures, and I’m very treat-motivated, which helps with my training. I do eat really fast, so my foster is working on that with me. When I’m not learning new tricks, I love exploring outside, sniffing everything, and getting my zoomies out! I also love snuggling with my foster and their dog. My ideal forever home would be with an active family or person who can keep me both mentally and physically engaged. A fenced-in yard would be amazing for me to run and play! I’m incredibly sweet, smart, and full of personality. My foster calls me a “little trip hazard” because I always want to be close to my people. If you’re looking for a loving and entertaining companion, I might be the perfect fit for you! Could you be my forever family? This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. If the dog or puppy is not yet fully vetted, we can only consider applications from adopters within an hour's drive or 40 miles of Lemont, IL, due to required vet visits at our partner veterinarians. For fully vetted dogs or puppies, we welcome applications from out-of-state or beyond the 40-mile radius. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Breed and Age Information: Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners. Adoption Fee: $400 The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue) Microchip Rabies vaccine DHPP vaccine Bordetella vaccine 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease) General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care. Spay/Neuter Policy: We spay/neuter dogs at 16 weeks or older, at the discretion of the rescue and in consultation with our partner veterinarians. While some veterinarians recommend delaying the procedure based on a breed’s projected size, as a rescue, our primary goal is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering also provide significant health benefits, including cancer prevention and reducing behavioral issues. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs as early as 8–16 weeks. We carefully assess each case to determine the best timing for the procedure. Interested in Adopting? Submit an adoption application at www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt
