My Story

Meet Jasper, an adult Lab mix who's got a heart as big as his personality. He's a friendly fellow, always eager to make new friends, both human and canine. Sweet and mellow, Jasper has a knack for making anyone around him feel at ease. His goofiness is endearing, often resulting in bouts of laughter from anyone lucky enough to witness his antics. Cuddly as can be, Jasper loves nothing more than snuggling up to his favorite people. But don't let his calm demeanor fool you, Jasper is always up for an adventure. His ideal home would be one where he can share his love, sweetness, and goofiness with a family who will appreciate him for the amazing companion he is. Adopt Jasper and let him fill your home with joy, laughter, and endless cuddles. Jasper is a 3 - 4 yr old male Lab mix. He has a medium energy level, so he should fit well into most homes provided he receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles and kisses. Jasper walks well on a leash with no pulling. He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is intensely interested in cats in the shelter environment. Jasper does display resource guarding tendencies, and should be fed separately from other animals. See a staff member for more information about resource guarding. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting.
