My Story

ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/14112 Meet Mr. Jeffers - the easy-going, housebroken, crate trained puppy! Name: Jeffers Gender: Male Breed: Mixed Breed (Terrier Mix) Age: 4 months old Weight: 24lbs Expected Size When Grown: 50-60 lbs Current Location: Clifton, VA About Jeffers! I am just a little guy that has had some good luck in my life already! In South Carolina I lived with a foster mom who taught me how to use the bathroom outside, sleep in a crate, and sit too! I made a long trip north with all my new skills, ready to find my forever home. I bet my luck will continue and a loving home will find me, maybe that is you!! Personality I am an easy-going guy. I am very curious, like to check out my surroundings, and very aware of new things in my environment. So far I have been a low-key puppy, mostly interested in cuddling with people. I do get sad and a little worried when my people leave the room. As I get more comfortable I will show more of my true personality. Energy Level & Play Style I like to trot around and sniff or chase after and pounce on a ball. I really like to chew, curled up in a comfy bed, or even better in a lap! I am just as likely to chew on the toy basket as the toys inside, but I am learning what is a toy and what isn't! I am learning to communicate with the dogs in my foster house. Sometimes I don't want to share my toys, but I am learning to. Skills and Training Crate Trained: I sleep in my crate at night, and I stay in my crate during the day when my foster family goes out (no more than 3 to 4 hours). House Trained: I am house trained as long as I get regular potty breaks, as frequently as hourly when I am playing. I go right away when I get outside, which is nice because its cold out there! I sleep 9 hours overnight in my crate without an accident. Barking: I have a decent amount to say. I use my bark to let people know there is something they should check out, like a person, or a dog, or even my reflection!! I also bark to settle myself down when I go into my crate, for about 10 minutes, just to make sure no one wants to come and get me. When other dogs bark I also join in. Companionship I am happy to meet new people, and like to be around people. I am happy to go explore, but I do like to come back and check in often, especially when I can crawl into a lap. Love and Affection I really like to sit and get pets! When someone sits on the floor, I stop by for pets often. And my favorite way to nap is curled up next to someone on the couch. Included Veterinary Care - Vaccinations: Up to date for my age - Spay/Neuter: Completed - Heartworm Preventative - Flea and Tick Preventative - Worm/Parasite Treatments Ready to meet Jeffers? (OPH) rescues dogs and cats of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters in NC, VA, MD, and SC, reducing the numbers being euthanized. With limited resources, the shelters are forced to put down 50-90% of the animals that come in the front door. OPH provides pet adoption services to families located in VA, DC, MD, PA and neighboring states. OPH is a 501(c)(3) organization and is 100% donor funded. OPH does not operate a shelter or have a physical location. We rely on foster families who open their homes to give love and attention to each pet before finding a forever home. All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Ashland, VA for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Ashland.
