Meet Johan, the 1-year-old mystery mix who’s here to remind you that sometimes, not knowing exactly what you’re getting is part of the fun! If you’ve ever wanted a dog who will worship and adore you every single hour of the day—and prefers to rule solo as your one and only pet—Johan is your guy. Let’s just say, if he had thumbs, he’d likely try to write himself into your will. Johan’s journey started on a sobering note; he was on death row at the shelter before he came to us. But lucky for him (and for you), his fate took a turn for the better! Now, he's ready to live his best life as the star of not only your home but heart as well! <3
Johan firmly believes in the philosophy of “One Dog, One Home.” He’s not into sharing his kingdom with other canines or the Sacks-of-Meow. In fact, he thinks other animals are best admired from a distance—like, say, across the street or better yet, in another zip code. But when it comes to humans, Johan is a certified cuddle monster. He’s the kind of dog who thinks “personal space” is just a silly concept made up by people who haven’t experienced the joy of having a 37-pound furball try to climb into their lap at every opportunity. Johan is a bit of a homebody who’s perfectly content with a yard to play in and a human to cuddle with. He’s got a bit of a zig-zag style on his walks, probably thinking he’s weaving through an obstacle course, and he’s happiest when he’s got a toy in his mouth and a human to share it with.
But don’t let that deter you! Johan is all about his people. He’s the kind of dog who hops into the car with the enthusiasm of a road trip-loving teenager, eagerly staring out the window and taking in the sights. When it comes to humans, Johan is a certified lap climber, professional cuddler, and tail-wagging enthusiast. He’ll jump on you with the kind of joy that says, “You’re my favorite person ever!” (Spoiler: He’ll think that about you every day.) If you’re picturing Johan at a family gathering, envision him as the life of the party—his tail wags 100 miles per hour proudly parading his favorite toy as he cheerfully greets each guest. His joyful bounces and enthusiastic greetings turn him into the center of attention, spreading cheer and delight wherever he goes. While his main goal may be to spread cheer and happiness to all, he might not realize that his exuberance can be a bit much for tiny humans, but that’s only because he’s got so much love to give.
If Johan were to moonlight as a security guard, he’d be at Guardian Mode Level 4. If something is disturbing his kingdom, be it a leaf falling outside or the neighbor’s cat daring to stroll by, he will be sure to let you know. We haven't had the heart to tell him yet though that his barks are more like enthusiastic squeaks from a toy than actual threats—are just as charming as his playful antics and wagging tail. If he were trying to scare off intruders, the most he’d achieve is making them giggle. His bark might not stop a burglar, but it’s guaranteed to melt your heart and possibly tickle your funny bone.
Johan is the ultimate house guest, with manners so impeccable you'd think he took a master class from Emily Post. He’s a potty-training prodigy, treating his crate like a five-star hotel room—no accidents, no mess, just pure canine class. When it comes to furniture, Johan’s couch etiquette is top-notch; he doesn’t just sit, he assumes the position of royalty, lounging like he’s the king of the castle. His chewing habits are just as refined. Johan is the kind of dog who wouldn’t dream of chewing your shoes or furniture—he’s more like a sophisticated connoisseur of toys, sticking to his own chewables like a gourmet dining at a five-star restaurant. You won’t find him digging holes in the yard or turning your home into a playground of chaos. Instead, he’s the sort of dog who would calmly watch as you rearrange the furniture and then graciously settle in his designated spot on the couch, giving you a look that says, “Well, this is nice.”
