My Story
This pretty girl is Kaia, who will be 2 years old on January 23. She’s spayed, up to date on vaccines and looking for her forever home by her birthday due to some major life changes with her original owner, who’s made the difficult decision to rehome her.
I haven’t met Kaia in person yet (she resides in Kingston right now) but she sounds delightful. She is a real “people person,” and loves attention from humans of all ages, including children (although she has not lived with kids) – “if they have hands, they can pet me” is Kaia’s motto, and anyone willing to pet her is a potential new best friend. She does get excited and sometimes jumps up, so is probably best with older kids (age 10 and up).
Kaia loves playing with other dogs and will initiate play with a play bow with dogs she meets. And with her love of attention from humans, with plenty of pets and sticks to fetch, she’ll be your best girl. She is crate trained, rides well in the car, and has basic obedience (sit, shake, wait, touch, circle, back up, drop it, take it, find it) and would LOVE going to nose work, barn hunt, obedience classes, or anything else that gets her out with her human. She’s young and active and while good on leash, although she does pull when she’s excited – a few positive reinforcement reminders and she’s right by your side.
Kaia lived with a cat for her first year, although she liked to play and had trouble giving the cat personal space, but with proper introduction (taking it sloooooooow), she could live with a cat again. She has a normal, healthy prey drive and will chase squirrels and bunnies - and one time chased a deer! - on regular walks sees goats and cows and likes when they bleat/moo.
Like a lot of Rottweilers, Kaia has personal boundaries/strong body autonomy, although she’s not an aggressive dog. For instance, when you try and physically move her out of bed she will grumble/growl at you, but if you tell her to get down she gets down readily. If she has a sore/ouchie or needs to go to the vet for anything painful, she may growl and bare her teeth as a warning not to touch the sore area. For trips to the vet that might be painful, mild tranquilizers before she goes make the trip much easier for her and the vet both. She has been known to dig or chew on inappropriate things if she’s not getting enough exercise or attention – an easy fix!
Her owner tells me “She’s a lover girl. She will lick your face if you’re crying, offer her belly for rubs at the end of a hard day, adventure with you, listen to your stories, and be the best friend you could possibly ask for.”
