My Story

Meet Katniss! After being found as a stray in Houston, she's made her way to NY and is very much at home in the big city. She's EXCELLENT with young children and other dogs/cats. She's a dream fit for any family and huge bonus for many people - she doesn't shed! Her foster mom says: "Katniss is such a dream! The way this sweet girl has settled in during her first couple of days in Brooklyn has been amazing. She was perfect in the car and didn't make a peep as she happily sat in the passenger seat taking a snooze. After we got her home, we took her into the shower and she had zero issues getting a full scrub down. Then, she joined her foster pup-sister at the park where she happily greeted every single person and dog. She loves EVERYONE. She then went to a block party where she immediately entered herself in a dog show. This girl knows how to work a crowd! She was perfect having dinner at a restaurant, napped in the 5 year old human's bed and curled up at the foot of the grown-up bed for the night next to our other pup. She slept through the night with no issue and had to be dragged out in the morning! Katniss has had zero accidents and done all of her business outside. We have not introduced a pad as she seems fully set to go outside. We have loads of rugs and I know our home has the scent of other dogs but she has proven to be totally house trained so far. She walks great on a leash and even in a harness. She pulled some the first day but we've noticed so much improvement in her pulling on walks since then. She's treat motivated and so smart. She already knows sit and I have a feeling she is quick to learn new things. We have not left her alone yet but given how close she stays to me and how she insists on coming upstairs with me, I feel like she'd love to have someone home more often than not or be able to go into an office. She just lights up around people. She has been phenomenal with our young children, as they are used to small dogs, and she loves meeting children on the street. She would do great in a home with children as long as they understand how small and delicate she is. She's a tiny girl! So far, she definitely likes to chill and rest more than run around and play when she's inside. She really loves other dogs so she would thrive in a home with another small/medium pup (she seems a little scared with really big dogs). And if she's the only pup, she'd be just as happy with a human companion she can spend loads of time with, as long as she gets some dog park and doggy play date time. She's very social! I truly can't say enough about how wonderful she is. She deserves the most amazing life. For whoever is lucky enough to call her theirs, please know you have a forever dogsitter with her foster family! We love her so much!" INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? To adopt Katniss, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email [email protected] to follow up on your application. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET. Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!
