Children list specific ages: Good Strangers:Friendly and playful Training Needs: Needs some training Crate Trained:Working on it Potty Trained: Yes Hi there! My name is Keeper, and I’m a 1-year-old Lab mix weighing in at 55 lbs. I’ve got a playful and active personality that keeps life exciting! I’m great with other dogs and love to play. Cats? No problem—I don’t mind them at all. Kids are awesome too! I’ve been around them and enjoy being playful and active with them. When it comes to meeting new people, I’m outgoing and playful—I’ll probably greet you with a wagging tail and a big smile. I’m doing well with potty training, though I still have the occasional accident. I’m also crate trained but prefer being around people. If you leave me in my crate, I might cry a bit, but I calm down quickly. I’ve already learned how to sit, and I’m treat-motivated, so I’m ready to learn even more! On walks, I tend to pull and get excited when I see other dogs, but I’m working on it. I’m also a fan of squeaky toys—those are my favorite! I’ve been known to chew on things if I don’t have enough toys and bones to keep me busy, and I might sneak into the garbage if it’s left uncovered. I love going on walks, playing, and cuddling with my people. My ideal forever home would be an active family with kids who can keep up with my energy and join in the fun. I’ll melt your heart with my love of snuggling and my adorable habit of wagging my tail while eating—it’s my happy dance! If you’re looking for a sweet and lively addition to your family, I could be your Keeper! She/He is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. We cannot hold our dogs for any reason. Unless the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will only consider applications that are within 1 hour or 40 miles of Lemont, IL. This is due to the required vetting at our partner veterinarians. If the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will allow adoptions out of state or outside of our 1 hour or 40 mile restriction. Please do not apply unless you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into the home within five days of approval. ADOPTION FEE: $350 (includes spay/neuter must be done when the rescue schedules it at one of our partner vets, microchip, rabies vaccine, DHPP vaccine, 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease ) and a general wellness which includes dewormer, heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention) *Please understand that we will spay/neuter no younger than 16 weeks but it is the rescue's discretion when the dog will get that procedure. We know that some veterinarians recommend waiting depending on the breed's projected size but as a rescue, our goal is to prevent further unwanted, "accidental" litters. Spaying and neutering also have many benefits for cancer prevention and avoiding behavioral problems. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay and neuter procedures for cats and dogs as early as 8-16 weeks of age. We always assess and speak with our partner vets when is the best time to perform this procedure. Interested? Submit an adoption application at www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt
