Meet Kenya! This adorable young Rottweiler mix girl is one of 17 lucky pups that arrived from a shelter we partner with in California's Central Valley region. Upon their arrival, they will go into temporary foster homes located between Bend/Central Oregon and the greater Portland area until they find their new families! Before going home with their adoptive families, they will be seen by our veterinarian for their wellness checks to ensure they're microchipped, up to date on their vaccinations, as well as spayed/neutered. Help us to welcome them to the Pacific Northwest and make sure to submit your online adoption application through our website right away if you'd like to learn more and join this pup's interest list for a chance to meet him/her and work towards a potential in-home adoption trial. Will you be my hero?

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.
To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost.
Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
