My Story

Meet Kiki! Kiki is an adorable adult male Chihuahua/Pomeranian small mixed breed boy who's looking for his dream person or family. Kiki is approximately 3 years old and around 7-9 pounds. He is not an SDH dog, but one SDH is assisting with rehoming for his current owner here in Bend, OR. Would you like to be his lucky person? He's up to date on his shots, is microchipped, had his wellness exam and is neutered as well. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Kiki and bring him home for an adoption home trial, so submit your adoption application through our website today! Will you be his hero? Here's more about Kiki from his owner/rescuer: I have had Kiki in my home since late Nov. 2024. The previous owner was unable to keep him due to his housing and was going to have to take him to the animal shelter unless someone was willing to take him in. I did not want to see this sweet boy end up at the shelter, so I took him in and considered keeping him myself, but I know it is not realistic for me to have 2 dogs at this time. The previous owner said that Kiki spent the majority of his life with other dogs on a spacious piece of property where the dogs had plenty of freedom (He is not crazy about being on a leash.) Kiki loves children and gravitates to my granddaughter and her friends when they come over. He loves being held and prefers people who give him space for a few minutes to warm up to. He gets along with other dogs. I have a Golden Retriever, and my daughters have a Schnauzer and another Golden Retriever, who come over often to visit. He will play with them sometimes, although he does not like it if they take his toys, so a kind, friendly and easy-going dog buddy who's open to sharing would be best for Kiki. He sure loves stuffed animals and rope toys/chews! He will bark at other dogs if they take his toys. He stands up for himself and does not cower when they bark back at him. He has been to the vet 2 times since I've personally had him. One time for an exam and one time for a check up after being neutered due to swelling and redness. He is not a fan of the vet like many dogs. He is potty trained too. He is used to sleeping with his people and is a real pro cuddler. He is active, energetic and loves to play with his toys (he likes playing fetch, but doesn't always like giving the toy back) and he's also very quiet and calm when being held. He's perfectly content just sitting in your lap. He is definitely a lap dog when he's ready for down time. I can be on a zoom meeting for a few hours at a time, and he wants to just sit in my lap. His funny little quirk is that he likes watching TV and will bark when he sees dogs on the screen. Kiki would do best in a home with kids old enough to know they need approach Kiki calmly and preferably let him initiate being held. He is good around other dogs as long as they're friendly and welcoming of him, but I do not know about cats. I think he would be a great emotional support dog for someone, and he would love an emotional support human to give him that support. He is very loving. He really is a very special little guy. I am happy to continue to foster him until we find the perfect fit. He really deserves to be in the best home! ***Kiki is not an SDH dog. SDH is assisting with Kiki's rehoming.*** steps to adopting (OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires. To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption agreement and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover some of the expenses related to bringing this pup into our program. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport, food and supplies, and other rescue related expenses. Rescue dogs do not transport to SDH until they are healthy, have been further medically and behaviorally evaluated per our guidelines and are ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they arriving into our program, which includes sterilization, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program depending on our rescue/shelter partner's available resources, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive with us at our cost. Once the adoption has been finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
