My Story
Meet Kiplan Asher, affectionately known as Kip! Kip joined TCHS after being rehomed several times, largely due to his previous owners' inability to devote enough time to training. As a hearing-impaired dog, he doesn't respond to verbal commands, which means it takes a little extra effort to catch his attention and communicate with him through hand signals.
His previous owners described him as a snuggle bug! Kip enjoys riding in cars, digging in the yard, and playing fetch, and his little tail is always wagging with excitement! Since arriving, Kip has shown his affectionate side, happily enjoying pets and attention from our staff.
In his last home, Kip lived with another hearing-impaired dog, but his high energy proved to be too much for her. As a mix of herding breeds, he thrives on activity and play, which sometimes resulted in barking and howling when he was left alone and bored-making apartment life a challenge.
Kip is house-trained and will let you know when he needs a bathroom break by going to the door and whining. While he is crate-trained, he isn't fond of being confined and may howl and try to escape. He prefers to be with his family, exploring and sniffing around, so it would be ideal for someone to be home during the day to keep him company. Kip can be a bit reactive on the leash and tends to be mouthy when meeting new people, so patience, treats, and time are key in helping him lose this habit. He just can't contain his excitement!
His hearing impairment means that his new owners will need to build a bond of trust, rewarding his attention with treats and guiding him with hand signals. He has already responded well to non-verbal commands for sit and lay down, indicating that he genuinely wants to please-he just needs someone committed to helping him develop his social skills and manners.
Kip has lived harmoniously with cats and loves meeting and playing with other dogs. His previous family recommended that being the only dog in the household may help him receive the dedicated attention, training, and playtime he truly deserves. TCHS believes he would do well with other dogs who match his high energy levels, and this may help to provide him the enrichment and stimulation he needs to thrive!
Kip has responded well to an e-collar on the vibrate setting and a martingale collar to reduce pulling on his harness. An e-collar is a wonderful training tool with deaf dogs when used properly. TCHS would encourage his adopter to research this training tool to ensure they can utilize its full potential!
Donations and adoption fees help cover the costs of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinations, deworming, and general care. If you're interested in adopting Kip, please call 320-252-0896 to place a deposit on this lovable companion!
