You may know the saying "Pretty is as pretty does," and in this case, "Handsome is as handsome does" definitely fits our adorable Koda! This charming boy is almost 5 years old (born on 03/08/2020) and is bursting with energy, mischief, and love. Koda came to us from a single mom who cared deeply for him but found her busy lifestyle a bit overwhelming. And while this Mom and her children adored Koda, he has not been taught much about good behavior and boundaries.
We see Koda as a diamond in the rough who needs some training, mental stimulation, and exercise to truly shine. It's important to note that Koda is an escape artist; he has managed to escape from yards with 4-foot fences and his crate. He is not crate trained; he has destroyed his current crate, which suggests he may never have been properly trained in a crate.
Koda can be a jumper and tends to invade personal space when meeting new people, but his foster Mom has been working on this behavior. He is quick to counter-surf, so keeping an eye on items left on counters and storing food away to avoid tempting him is essential. Out of sight can help with this. Interestingly, Koda is not motivated by everyday treats or kibble but might respond to high-value treats during training.
Now, let’s talk about Koda's amazing personality! He absolutely loves people and is great with kids of all ages. He gets along wonderfully with cats, too! Koda enjoys playing with dogs his size—both male and female—and after some fun playtime, he’s all about cozy cuddles and napping, especially on the couch with a human as his pillow! He’s a fan of lounging on furniture, so if you have specific rules about that, it’s something to keep in mind.
Koda would be thrilled to join a family with an adult who is often home and loves spending time outdoors, like running or hiking. He would absolutely adore having kids and another fun dog around to play with. Koda is ready to bring lots of happiness and companionship to a loving home!
