Hi, I'm Abby, a 2-year-old hound mix, fully vetted and ready to find my forever home! Once I get to know them, I absolutely love being around other dogs, both male and female. While I haven’t been tested around cats, I’ve been super friendly on walks when I pass by kids and strangers—I just love meeting new people!
I’m crate-trained, which is a good thing since I have a bit of separation anxiety. When you’re away, I’ll happily go into my crate, but if I’m left out alone, I might get a little too curious and chew on things or have an accident. At night, though, I’m perfectly fine being left out as long as I’m sleeping near you.
I’m still learning how to live inside a home. I know commands like “no” and “leave it,” Speaking of food, I’m very food-driven! I used to be food-aggressive, but I’ve gotten better. I just need a little supervision so I don’t sneak over to steal another dog’s meal. I just can't help it! I LOVE food.
I’m an adventure lover! I adore long walks, hikes, car rides, and even splashing in the water. I do pull a bit on the leash—I think I’ve got some hunting dog instincts in me—but I’m getting better. I also have a blast playing with squeaky toys, especially my favorite red reindeer.
I’m a cuddler at heart. I love to snuggle up with my foster family and their other dogs. I may still play with my mouth a bit and get nippy when I’m excited, so I’d do best in a home without small children. My ideal forever home is an active family who has another dog for me to play with, and who can give me the attention, training, and love I need. I promise to be incredibly loyal and love you endlessly in return.
Oh, and one more thing—I have this cute little habit of crossing my paws like a “proper Lady” when I get cozy, which is why my foster family calls me Lady or Ladybug!
She/He is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. We cannot hold our dogs for any reason. Unless the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will only consider applications that are within 1 hour or 40 miles of Lemont, IL. This is due to the required vetting at our partner veterinarians. If the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will allow adoptions out of state or outside of our 1 hour or 40 mile restriction. Please do not apply unless you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into the home within five days of approval.
ADOPTION FEE: $350 (includes spay/neuter must be done when the rescue schedules it at one of our partner vets, microchip, rabies vaccine, DHPP vaccine, 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease ) and a general wellness which includes dewormer, heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention)
*Please understand that we will spay/neuter no younger than 16 weeks but it is the rescue's discretion when the dog will get that procedure. We know that some veterinarians recommend waiting depending on the breed's projected size but as a rescue, our goal is to prevent further unwanted, "accidental" litters. Spaying and neutering also have many benefits for cancer prevention and avoiding behavioral problems. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay and neuter procedures for cats and dogs as early as 8-16 weeks of age. We always assess and speak with our partner vets when is the best time to perform this procedure.
