My Story

The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application. Phone interviews do not take place til after an approved application is on file and we have a possible match for your home My name is Lily. I am three years old and weigh 16 pounds. I need a new home because my owner could no longer care for me. I am being fostered in Longmont, CO. I am a love bug. Part of the reason I was surrendered is because I like to jump up and for being as little as I am, I can really reach up there! My foster parents are working with me to help me not do that anymore. I am a work in progress. I don’t like the cold, but I still go outside every time I’m told to go. I don’t have a doggy door, but I know that when I’m close to the patio door, mom or dad let me out and I go as soon as possible. So far, I have had one potty accident in the house and that was my foster parent’s fault because they weren’t watching me when I was trying to tell them I had to go. I am used to being an only dog. When my previous owner brought in another (bigger) dog, I didn’t want to share my humans so I would show the other dog to leave them alone. My foster brother is only slightly bigger than me and we seem to get along. I still try to claim my humans, but my foster parents are teaching me to share. I am a real smart cookie, so I’m learning quickly. I really don’t like the kennel at my foster house. My previous owner said that I never liked them. Even broke out of one. To get me over this, my foster parents are feeding me in the kennel so I associate it with good things like food. After a while, I think I might not be afraid of them, but it will take time. I am sleeping in mom and dad’s bed and I love it! Sometimes I’ll even sneak under the sheets. But I mostly like to sleep on top, snuggled next to mom. And I’m a sound sleeper. I don’t snore so I don’t wake anyone up. I love to sit next to mom and dad when they are watching tv. Sometimes I’ll get a burst of energy and will want to play with my chew toys. But overall I just want to be next to my humans. Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy life to the fullest and I’m always a happy dog and want to give everyone I meet lots of kisses. Even if they don’t want them. From foster mom: She’s still a young dog and acts like a little puppy. As with most puppies, she is still testing boundaries. She can be toy aggressive and we are working with her on that I think it may be because she was an only-dog and not used to sharing. Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? Yes. Leash-trained? Yes. Rides well in car? Yes. Good with other dogs? No big dogs. I have been an only dogs for a long time that I know how to entertain myself when needed Good with cats? not yet tested Good with young children? Not yet been around any Shy or confident? Confident. Apartment qualified? Yes, if she’s taken out to potty on a regular basis. But she is a barker at other barking dogs in the neighborhood and strangers at the door. Any Special needs or Health Issues? None. Adoption Fee? $450 The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at ''https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application. All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Other medical needs diagnosed while in foster care are also treated prior to adoption. MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who own their home, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not permitted due to leases and covenants. In these cases a leash law must be enforced. We do not accept invisible fencing. MABTR only adopts to families residing in NE, CO, MO, KS, IA, WY, SD, ND, ID, UT, MT, MN, and NW AR due to the lack of volunteer support in other states, no exception even if you are willing to drive.
