Meet Lolly, the epitome of everything we adore about Great Danes. This lovable, goofy, and playful girl is still very much a puppy at heart. She loves to play, wrestle, and adores her toys—though stuffies don't last long with her, so Kong-type toys are recommended.
Lolly gets along great with her foster siblings, whether they're extra-large, medium, or small. She's non-reactive with cats, both inside and out, but she thinks they're small dogs and wants them to play, even when they don't want to. She loves to go outside and play with the other pups, running like a greyhound—this girl is fast! She's also non-reactive with horses and likes to smell them through the fence. During the day, she's quite content to be piled up on her dog bed while her foster mom works.
Food is definitely Lolly's motivator. Since she came from a starvation case, she inhales her kibble, so she eats from a puzzle bowl. She will hover (non-aggressively) around the other dogs after she eats, so she usually gets sent to her kennel or bed immediately following her meals. She's decided that the cat food is a snack, so her foster family keeps a close eye on her around their bowls, and she will counter surf if food is left within reach and she's unattended. There's absolutely no resource guarding, and her foster family can love on her while she eats. She has a very soft mouth when taking treats from your hand but occasionally gets excited and can be mildly grabby—feeding treats from a fork is helping to curb that.
Lolly loves to be loved on and would like to be a lap dog. She's definitely a velcro pupper. She does well on car rides and is learning to jump into the big truck (back seat). She doesn't have any storm fear and will sleep right through them.
An active home would be great for Lolly. She has lots of energy and needs a big fenced yard or regular dog park trips. She doesn't meet a stranger and thinks the whole world comes to see her. She's extremely social and loves her foster dad. Her fosters don't have full-time kids, but when the grandkids show up, it's obvious that she desperately wants a little boy of her own to roughhouse with! Age 7 and up would be appropriate since she can get rough and tumble.
Lolly is housebroken, but routine outside time is a factor in that. She's not vocal about going outside, so "outside" and "love me" present the same way. She's free-roaming during the day but does fine in her kennel overnight and when her foster mom has to go out. She's good on a leash—collar or harness—and gets better every day with name recall when off leash. Kiss noises still work best for that, though. She has learned sit, wait ("high five" hand, stay), "don't pull" (on leash), lay down, no, kennel, bed, and let's go.
Lolly loves ear scratches, all the loves, soft beds, and being in her foster mom's pocket. She adores her toys and her foster dad's knotted-up old socks. She LOVES playing chase and wrestling with her pack. Her favorite toys include her kevlar donut and any toys she can steal from her foster siblings. She's a nibbler, so reinforced fabric on toys is preferable (Kong-type heavy canvas).
If you're looking for a lovable, goofy, and playful companion who will bring endless joy and laughter into your home, Lolly is ready to be your new best friend. Consider welcoming her into your family and experience the boundless love she has to offer.
