My Story

Meet Lou, a spirited Pointer mix with a heart full of love. This adult dog is the epitome of a loyal companion. His sweet and friendly nature makes him the perfect buddy for anyone. Lou is full of energy and curiosity. He loves exploring new surroundings, always on the hunt for a new adventure. His goofy and playful side is sure to bring joy and laughter to your home. Lou is also incredibly smart, always eager to learn new tricks and commands. His boundless energy and sharp intellect make him a great fit for active families or individuals who enjoy outdoor activities. But it's not all about play, Lou is just as happy to settle down for a cuddle after a day of fun. This loving dog is ready to find his forever home. Adopting Lou means gaining a loyal friend, a playmate, a walking buddy, and a cuddle partner. He's waiting to share his love and energy with a family that will cherish him forever. Lou is a 1 - 2 yr old male Pointer mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and likes to sit by his person for snuggles and kisses. Lou does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting.
