My Story

Louise 3-month-old female black Lab mix 20 lbs Not yet spayed Background. Young Louise was among ten puppies surrendered by their owner in Linden (east of Stockton). The puppies were from accidental litters between their female chocolate Lab and their female yellow Lab... and their neighbor's male Belgian Shepherd (the long-haired black Groenendael variety) who jumped the fence. Louise was born on 26 Jun (to the younger female yellow Lab). This is how you chew a bone." -- https://youtube.com/shorts/zljmZsN0wDk What Louise's foster says. Energetic, playful, intelligent. Social with dogs and humans. Would like to be alpha and is persistent but is very easily corrected. Loves to play with other dogs. Very athletic. Observant. Likes to eat with other dogs, gets distracted if she’s the only one. Crate trained but we can’t say she’s 100% housebroken. Puppy barking is toning down nicely as she matures. Louise is a firecracker and would do well with an active family. She has Lab traits for sure but seems to be leaning toward her Groenendaal side. She loves to “work” by given “tasks” and is beginning to shepherd the three other dogs (one that is so much bigger that she can stand beneath him). Louise is learning how to be on leash; it calms her down and she is taking to it. She loves little kids, but currently - because of her puppy energy - she’s a bit much for them. But she understands correction well because of her nimble brain! (Understands but is still working on obeying.) Also she won’t be a puppy forever! She can sleep through the night in her crate (10 hours!) if she’s been decently exercised and stimulated during the day. Because of her high energy and intelligence, she would do well with training and even love it. Based on our experience, we guess that she’ll reach 60-70 lbs. What Louise's Rescue Rep says. One awesome pup. Adopting a young puppy is much like having a newborn baby in the home: very demanding for care and attention, can't be left alone much, sometimes cries a lot -- especially at night when you want to sleep. Eat, poop/pee, play, sleep... repeat, repeat, repeat. Puppy-raising is also filled with joy and fun. Young puppies have sharp teeth and tend to go for human toes when available. We envision the adopter will need to be home most (if not all the time), have a home with a backyard, and be fully aware of what puppy care is all about. Not for those who are not ready to full commit to puppy care. Need to have a plan for puppy training and socialization with other puppies. Prior young dog experience is not required but highly preferable. No other dogs in the home under two years old, please. Cats okay. Several puppy handouts from Marin Humane are fabulous reads: Puppy World -- https://marinhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Puppy-World.pdf Puppy Health -- https://marinhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Puppy-Health.pdf Puppy Socialization -- https://marinhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Puppy-Socialization.pdf Medical. In fine health. Will receive her second of three distemper vaccinations in early October. We will work with the adopter to get her spayed down the road. Louise will be restricted to her home and backyard until she has had her third distemper vaccination and is cleared by the vet to go out in public. Louise is located in: Menlo Park.
