My Story
Mabel came into her foster home shy and reserved, but once she felt comfortable, her true personality began to shine. She’s a vibrant, energetic French Bulldog with boundless energy. Mabel is always on the move and loves to be active. Her thick, velvety coat and large, expressive ears give her a striking appearance, but it’s her playful, spunky personality that will capture your heart. She knows her name and a few basic commands, though like most Frenchies, she has a strong-willed, independent streak. She definitely thinks she’s the boss, which adds to her charm!
Mabel’s favorite activity is chewing on toys, especially Benebones or anything sturdy enough to withstand her powerful jaws. She can entertain herself for hours with a good chew toy, making it easy to keep her busy. Despite her love for play, Mabel has some quirks—while she will tolerate a bath (though begrudgingly), attempting a nail trim is a whole different story. Her sharp nails earn her the nickname “part velociraptor” because she’s not fond of getting them trimmed!
She walks well on a leash but, if given the chance, Mabel would prefer to run free. She loves exploring and enjoys her independence during outdoor time. Mabel is also the ultimate co-pilot during car rides, always calm and content while she rides shotgun. She does well in the car and will happily accompany you wherever you go, gazing out the window to take in the sights.
When it comes to other dogs, Mabel can be selective. She has lived with both larger and smaller dogs, male and female, and has done well with easygoing, submissive dogs who respect her space. However, she does tend to resource guard her toys, especially when another dog gets too close or tries to take them. Mabel doesn’t resource guard from people, only from other dogs, and she particularly guards newer toys. Because of this, she is fed separately from other dogs to avoid any conflicts over food or toys. While she enjoys playing with certain dogs, Mabel is often choosy (albeit with time she is much more accommodating) and tends to prefer the company of humans over her canine pals. She would do well with a balanced, passive dog but would also be perfectly happy as the only pet in the home.
Mabel has a strong, high-energy play style, which means she needs a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand her boundaries. While she currently lives with a toddler in her foster home, she is closely supervised to ensure everyone’s safety. Mabel can get nippy when she’s excited and playing, so her new home must provide her with the space and respect she needs to thrive. For this reason, a home with children 10 years or older would be the best fit for her.
Although she resource guards from other dogs, Mabel doesn’t guard items from people, but it’s important to manage her interactions with other animals carefully. Slow introductions and supervision are key to ensuring everyone gets along. Mabel’s ideal home will offer firm, consistent leadership and the patience to work with her as she continues to learn boundaries and manners. A family experienced in dog behavior would be a huge plus, especially to help with her resource guarding and energy management. Slow introductions and supervision around children and other animals are a must to be sure they and she are kept safe.
