My Story

The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application. Phone interviews do not take place til after an approved application is on file and we have a possible match for your home My name is Maize. I am 2 years old and weigh 13 pounds. I need a new home because my previous family surrendered me to the shelter. I am being fostered in Lincoln, NE. One day my people took me to this really scary place. A place with lots of other dogs, smells, noises, and strangers. I was really overwhelmed and afraid. Why did they leave me here? When are they coming back? I was so afraid and confused that I wouldn't let anybody near me. I didn't want to be mean, I just didn't know how else to protect myself. After seven long days I was finally rescued. This nice lady brought me to her home. It was a relief to be in a place that felt familiar. After the first night I knew I was safe here. I was able to show my true personality. Which I'm told, is like a very normal two-year-old pup! Now that I feel safe and secure I'm ready to find my forever family. A family that will promise to always keep me so I never have to experience this again. I love to snuggle! If I pick you as one of my people I will lay right on top of you! I can't get close enough!! I have an intense food drive. I will push other dogs out of the way to get to their treat. I would rather not sleep in my crate. I will do it, but your bed is way more comfortable! I need help gaining social skills when it comes to strange dogs/people. With everything I have been through I'm going to need someone with patience. New places, dogs, and people make me nervous. When I'm nervous I feel like I need to defend myself. I need someone who's comfortable helping me socialize so that I can gain confidence. Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? I know what “outside” means but will occasionally go potty inside. Leash-trained? Yes. But if I'm scared, I'm not moving. Rides well in car? Yes Good with other dogs? I need to get to know them first. If they are too hyper or I feel threatened I will snap at them. Once I know that they don't mean me any harm I'm ready to play! Good with cats? Yes. Good with young children? Not at this time. Good with strangers? No. I am very wary of new people. Shy or confident? Both Barks? No Apartment qualified? Yes Any Special needs or Health Issues? I recently has my knee repaired due to a luxatting patella. Adoption Fee? $450 The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at ''https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application. All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Other medical needs diagnosed while in foster care are also treated prior to adoption. MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who own their home, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not permitted due to leases and covenants. In these cases a leash law must be enforced. We do not accept invisible fencing. MABTR only adopts to families residing in NE, CO, MO, KS, IA, WY, SD, ND, ID, UT, MT, MN, and NW AR due to the lack of volunteer support in other states, no exception even if you are willing to drive.
