My Story

The Meximutt Project is on a mission to help Mexico’s street dogs! Established in 2019 under the Portland-based organization Born Again Pit Bull Rescue, we now support 1,000+ dogs each year through free spay/neuter programs, adoptions, food, and medical care. In Mexico over 70% of the 18 million dogs are estimated to live on the street. By adopting a Meximutt, you will not only be welcoming a loving companion but also supporting our efforts to control the street dog population and help thousands of dogs in need. ****INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Please read all of the following information carefully and fill out the application at www.bapbr.org. We cannot respond to the inquiries made through Petfinder.**** ============================================ MAMI is currently in Guadalajara, Mexico in foster care. We are listing this dog for adoption now so that we can find him/her the perfect family BEFORE arriving to Oregon. Once we have an adopter lined up for this dog, we will book a flight to PDX. Please note: It can take 2-4 weeks to arrange for the dog to fly to Oregon due to the CDC and USDA customs import paperwork. NAME: Mami AGE: 2 years old (estimated by our veterinarian based on their teeth). WEIGHT: 9 lbs BREED: Chihuahua/Rat Terrier Mix (This is our best guess, we don’t know for sure, since he/she was a street dog.) DOGS: Yes CATS: Yes KIDS: Yes, but please remember that kids need to know to be respectful of the dog’s space, bodies, and toys/food. HOUSEBROKEN: No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine. LEASH TRAINED: Not yet, working on it -- most dogs in Mexico have never walked on a leash before, she will need to be desensitized to leash walking and you will need to work on it slowly with them. ABOUT: Mami is a sweet girl who overcame a tough beginning after being abandoned with her five newborn puppies. Now, she’s a loving and sociable companion who adores being by your side. Mami gets along with cats, children, and other dogs. Mami is incredibly affectionate, earning her the nickname “chewing gum dog” because she’ll stick close to you, happily snuggling on your lap for hours. Mami sleeps curled up in bed at night and dreams of a home where she’s adored, taken everywhere, and cherished for her snuggly nature. She’s ready to bring warmth and love to her forever family! ============================================ IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY: Our adoption program is exclusive and personal. Here is how it works: 1. Angela Adams – the founder and director of “The MexiMutt Project/Born Again Pit Bull Rescue” will call you and approve your adoption application for the dog, and she will chat more in depth with you about our adoption process. 2. We will purchase the flight to Oregon (this is already included in the adoption fee). Angela will communicate every detail with you! 3. Angela will text you weekly updates (photos/videos of your new MexiMutt dog while awaiting the flight to Portland). 4. Once the dog arrives in Portland, you will pick up the dog at PDX (the airport), pay the adoption fee, receive all vet/medical records, and take your new dog home! Adoption fee is $650 --- What does that cover? • All vaccines (DHLPPi=Distemper, Hepatitis, Lepto, Parvo, Parainfluenza, Rabies and Bordetella-for kennel cough) • Sterilization (spay/neuter surgery) • Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia/Anaplasma Blood Parasite Test • Parvo/Giardia/Canine Coronavirus Test • CBC (Complete Blood Count) bloodwork results (printed and put in your adoption folder) • Dental/Teeth Cleaning (if needed) • Current on flea/tick/heartworm treatment with SimparicaTRIO (a pill that is good for 30 days) • Deworming x3 (upon intake, 15 days later and again before flight to Oregon for reinforcement) • Microchipped with prepaid lifetime registration for you to register your new dog • Grooming/bath before transport to Oregon • Flight Health Certificate • USDA Import Permit • Airplane ticket for the freedom flight from Guadalajara, Mexico to Portland, Oregon • Collar, Leash and MexiMutt ID tag Adoption fees are payable via: Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, or cash. HOW TO APPLY: • Fill out an online application at: https://www.bapbr.org/adoption-application • We are a 100% volunteer-run organization and due to the large number of applications we receive, we are not able to reply to everyone individually. If we think you are the right match for our dog, we will reach out to you. Please understand that we really love our dogs and are very invested in their success in life. We try very hard to place our dogs into homes that will make both the dog and their people happy. Thank you in advance for understanding. • Likewise, we are not able to respond to all the Petfinder inquiries (through email and phone calls) due to the large volume of applications we receive.
