My Story
Meet Matilda, a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose picture might just be in the dictionary when looking for the definition of laid-back elegance. This lovely lady is the kind of dog who exudes calm confidence like she knows she’s got life all figured out—and she probably does.
Matilda's journey hasn't been an easy one, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at her now. She came to us as a heartbreaking case of neglect, a shadow of the majestic Great Pyrenees mix she was meant to be—skin and bones, missing patches of fur, covered in parasites, and to top it off, heartworm positive. But this girl has bounced back like a champ and is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. By the time October rolls around, she’ll be ready to start her new chapter with a family who will cherish her the way she deserves.
Matilda is the perfect companion whether you’re an adventurous soul or more of a homebody. She’ll hop right into the car with you, sit back, and enjoy the scenery, making her the ideal road trip buddy. But don’t worry—if staying in and lounging on the couch is more your speed, Matilda’s all in for that too. In fact, you might often find her curled up on a comfy dog bed or snuggling next to you on the couch, especially if you’re the lucky person she’s chosen as her favorite. She’s got a soft spot for her humans, particularly her foster dad, whom she eagerly waits for every day just so she can jump up next to him and demand her well-deserved pets.
Matilda doesn’t bother with the frivolities of life like fetching toys or chasing balls—she’s far too sophisticated for that. Instead, she prefers to keep things low-key, perhaps enjoying a bone every now and then or savoring her favorite soft, deboned chicken dog food. She’s the kind of girl who knows what she likes and isn’t afraid to let you know. Fetch? Pfft, who needs it?
Despite her laid-back nature, Matilda takes her role as a guardian seriously. When the sun goes down, she switches to Guardian Mode Level 3, patrolling the yard like a seasoned night watchman. She’s not one to bark at nothing—oh no, when Matilda barks, it’s because she’s making sure all is well in her kingdom. And if there’s one thing she’s not a fan of, it’s that magical doggie door. Matilda prefers the traditional way of asking to go outside, thank you very much.
Matilda gets along beautifully with other dogs, and she’s even okay with cats and children. She’s perfectly potty-trained, well-mannered, and has never had to be confined to a kennel—she’s trustworthy enough to roam free without causing any mischief. And while she might have had a rough start in life, Matilda’s heart is full of love to give. One look into those soulful eyes, and you’ll see just how special she truly is.
