My Story

Dog Name: Mavis (Mavie) ?Age: 2.5 years?Gender: Female?Breed: Pit mix?Weight: 50 lbs (short and thick)?Vaccinated: Yes ?Spayed: Yes ?Heartworm: Negative ?Microchipped: Yes ?Energy level: Low to med ?Crate trained: Free roam – or can be put in a room with no issue ?Potty trained: 100%  ?Dog friendly: Possibly (no littles) Cat friendly: No ?Kid friendly: Yes, older Location: Mavis is being fostered in Chicago, IL. No out of state applicants, please. Personality: She is a character - fun-loving, curious, very communicative, playful, loves people. I named her Mavis because she looked like a very strict, scary high school librarian, but she very quickly became Maeve/ Mavie because she’s just a character and such a doll!   Part pittie/ part hobgoblin, this girl is an angel and my easiest foster ever! She came to me 100% housebroken Never barks. No separation anxiety and no need to crate her as she doesn’t chew anything except her stuffies and her antler. I put her in the bathroom when the plumber was working and there was no issue. She watches TV, so I when I leave the apartment I turn “her stories” on the dog channels, which she appreciates! Loves car rides, walking through the store,  sitting on the park bench to people-watch just as much as she loves watching you make (her) dinner. Mavie is an extremely easy and accommodating dog – I can take anything out of her mouth, push her to the side of the bed in her sleep, handle her all over, etc… She’s the perfect dog for a single person/ apartment but of course would adore even more people to love. Mavie must have lived in an apartment as she had no issues with the elevator and does her business within 5 minutes of going out. She doesn’t know “heel” but is very good on leash although she doesn’t stay in any one lane so I’ve learned to be vigilant of where she because you can easily trip over her. After a week or so in Lake View she learned to look for the rats, esp at night, and will attempt to make chase when she sees one. Her I-gotta-go-out signal is unmistakable: she will stand on you and stare you down with those big round bug eyes and then she joyfully bounds to the door when she sees you understand. I can now discern this look from the Is-it-time-for-second-breakfast look. Just hysterical. Because she’s a muscular black pittie with cropped ears people walking may think she is a badass, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m always slow to introduce my fosters to other dogs so she hasn’t played with other dogs yet, but she’s very interested in them. She starts to “stalk” when she sees a dog on our walk…. but then she passes the medium and large ones respectfully but she has a high prey drive so no little dogs. The littles are always the ones that bark at her as well. Older children as she’s a sturdy girl (read short and stout) and will cannonball into me when she gets the zoomies and is very enthusiastic in tug-of-war with her stuffies. Mavie will be your best bud. She loves every person she meets, esp if they’re carrying anything that might be a doggie bag. With her comical looks she is quite the conversation-starter. Fifty pounds of shiny black muscle - 15’’ tall at her shoulder and 30” long. (Check out the paper towel photo for scale.) And that face!!  If you're interested in meeting Mavis, please fill out an application at the link below. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog
