My Story

“What we like best about Max is his loving, carefree nature and desire to please,” remarks Max’s foster mom. “He’s a very sweet, good natured and smart dog.” Once Max stopped blushing from all the compliments, he let us know he’s about 3 years old and came to us quite underweight at 65 pounds. He’s eating like a champ to gain a needed 10-15 more. Max is loving life with his foster family in the mountains! This good-natured pup, who likely had always lived outside, had a lot to learn when he arrived. With structure, a routine, patience, and kindness he has flourished. He’s house trained, crate trained and taken well to training. He has already learned ‘sit,’ ‘boundary,’ ‘settle’ and is working on ‘place.’ He relishes being close to his humans and laying his big head in your lap as if to say, “Is life really this good?!” Max loves the outdoors and exercise. He walks well on leash with a Gentle Leader, greeting manners when out and about are quite nice, and he’s a good passenger in the car. His Lab foster brother finds him an easy-going guy who shares his food and toys and is ready to play. Not sure what cats think. Overall, his peeps find Max friendly, affectionate, playful, and comfortable in his own fur. Faves? Being outside and exploring, going on walks, being with you and snuggling. Max’s foster family provides counsel on the best forever home: “Max loves to be outside so a home where he can be outside and do a lot of outdoor activities with his family would be ideal. While he enjoys outdoor activity, he can come inside and settle well too. He would do better with lots of space and would not thrive in a city or apartment-type home. “He is thriving with structure and routine, so this too would be ideal. He takes well to training and is stimulated with positive challenges. So, a home that can take time to continuously train and show him new tricks would be best. Max is an active dog, so a younger family or person would be best for him.”
