My Story

Dog name: Midnight Gender: Female Age/weight: estimated around 3, 54 pounds Breed: Flat-coated Retriever Mix Heartworm status: finishing up treatment Medications/Injuries: No meds, had leg amp at the end of September Good with people? Yes Children? Yes Dogs? Doesn’t care - would be fine with an older experienced dog, doesn’t care much for young hyper puppies Cats? They are fun to chase outside, inside not sure what she’d do Other animals? N/A House trained? Yes Crate trained? Yes, loves to lounge in her crate for some quiet time Energy level: low, she’s still learning how to be a tripod and doing HW treatment. Would assume once all healed her energy level will be medium Travel well? Yes Favorite toy/activity: she loves to be with her people and get pets, no interest in toys Leash trained? Yes Fence Required? Yes Midnights time was up, she was headed for the dreaded place no dog wants to ever go. She was HW+, not spayed and came to the shelter with a mangled leg and way underweight. Midnight has since been spayed, had that pesky leg removed and has completed her HW treatment. She’s still learning life at being a tripod, but she’s full of love. She wants nothing more than head scratches and attention. Her favorite things to do, roll in the grass, take naps at our feet and beg for all the attention. She LOVES being loved on, she will walk up and nudge hands, elbows or feet (if you’re sitting or laying) so you’ll pet her. Then she’ll look at you with those sweet puppy eyes that nobody can resist. Midnight has learned that foster mom, while she gives tasty treats, they are sometimes loaded with medicine. To keep Midnight on her toes we switch between cheese, sandwich meat, wet dog food and cream cheese. All have to be smell tested by Midnight before she’ll even think about taking it. Midnight is great on leash, great in the car, she is kennel trained (naps in her kennel, with door open) and potty trained (will whine and pace to be let out). Ultimate lovey companion, even after all she’s been through she still loves humans and wants love in return. She is dog friendly, but she wants so much attention all on her, she’d probably be most comfortable in a quieter house with just one other dog or be an only dog.
