Mitchell

This senior boy is one of the most special dogs you will ever meet, and we don’t say that lightly. There is something absolutely amazing about Mitchell. Once you meet him, you’ll know what we mean. This handsome hound mix is about 8 years old and came to us from an overcrowded shelter where he became a favorite among staff and other dogs alike-standing out because of his happy and friendly nature. They told us he was friends with dogs of all ages and sizes and he is happily living in foster care with a small dog. On walks Mitchell prances along nicely. He gets so excited to see other dogs out and about, and very polite about it! Mitchell is one of the most quiet hounds we’ve ever met — We have only heard him howl twice in a whole month-once was at the vet and the other when we forgot his nightlight! ? He sleeps soundly in his crate overnight and is often found napping in his open crate throughout the day. Don’t let his frosty face or love of naps fool you, though — Mitchell still LOVES to play too. He loves to romp in the yard with his foster sister, chase a ball, or play with a stuffed toy. He’s also living with a 1 year old baby in his foster home and has been wiggly and respectful towards him so we definitely think Mitchell would be a good addition to a family with kids. When we saved Mitchell, we found out that he is heartworm positive, but don’t worry—our team will handle the entire treatment! Heartworm is from a parasite from a mosquito bite, and when dogs aren’t on heartworm preventatives monthly, they are at risk of heartworm disease. The good news is that it is completely treatable, and Mitchell is already getting the care he needs to be on the path to recovery. He will thrive in a loving home who helps him heal. During heartworm treatment, you’ll get to be his biggest supporter, watching him grow stronger and more full of life each day. It’s a chance to create a special forever bond with a dog who will be eternally grateful. Mitchell is a perfect medium energy dog who loves everyone he meets. He is learning how to live in a house (and learn that everything is not one of his toys?) but he will settle on his bed with a kong or toy. He’s housetrained, crate trained, and is one of the happiest and nicest dogs we’ve ever met.
