Negan came into rescue with Oliver. They had both been with their owner since puppyhood but she did not feel that they were able to give them the attention they needed due to their current lifestyle and thought it would be best to see if they could find the boys a more suitable home. The boys had been kenneled in the most recent months but have also lived inside although they are not fully housebroken or crate trained. We have been working on that with them but they will need continued training from their adoptive homes until they get on a consistent routine/schedule. Both boys were, initially, a bit scared coming into rescue and leaving everyone and everything they ever knew but they have settled in nicely. They both get along with other dogs and kids. They were originally around cats in their previous home but we are not sure how long it has been since they have had direct contact with them and we do not have cats here so we can't say if they would still do fine with them. Probably with a slow, proper introduction, they would be fine. Negan is a velcro dog and really has a want and need to be near his people also. If you want a constant companion, he is perfect! Negan does like to counter surfer if he smells food but we have been working with him to stay down. He doesn't like being in a crate but can calm down after he's in it. He would really prefer to be where you are. Negan walks OK on a leash once he gets going but he it isn't his favorite thing. He rode well to the vet but hasn't taken any long trips with us so not sure how he would do on a long trip. Negan loves to play with balls and chew toys so if you have them available and you are near, he is a content boy! Negan is very sweet and gentle natured and we feel that he would be a wonderful companion, especially for anyone who is or can be home most of the time with him or will take him with them when they do go.
Negan saw the vet on 2/10/25 and was found to an ear infection and he was given Claro Otic in both ears to treat. He has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm prevention. He tested negative for heartworms but he did test positive for hookworms on his fecal so we have given him a Drontal for the intestinal parasites. He may need a follow up in 3 weeks. Negan weighed 44.4 pounds as of 2/10/25.
