My Story

Handsome, smart and curious Nick is ready to start a new life with his very own family. Nicknamed Nickerdoodles by his foster family (a reflection of his goofy side), he has a fun-loving personality and wants to please his people. Friendly with people and other dogs. He’s a Border Collie mix, born in February 2024 and 42#. Nick uses his nose to explore the world. The opportunity to sniff helps him feel settled and comfortable with the new-to-him everyday items he encounters (think vacuum cleaners, tools and the like). He likes to be engaged with his people and will always be nearby, true to his herding roots. He loves affection and politely asks for pets by rubbing against you. Nick lives with two other dogs in his foster home and is always ready for a robust game of keep away or tug with them. He’s interested in the resident cat and will chase if she runs, but not to harm her – you guessed it… he wants to smell her! Families with herding breed experience are a great fit for Nick - he definitely notices moving things like cars. He will benefit from a routine of daily exercise and opportunities to use his brain (and sniffer) to learn more about the world. Obedience classes are a must to help him bond with his new family and show off his smarts. We prefer a physically fenced yard as he learns about the big world around him: a safe play space will help him feel grounded. Nick relaxes easily in his crate and walks nicely in a harness. A consistent routine is key to housetraining; he is making great progress! He’s also learning nice manners like keeping four paws on the ground when meeting new friends and experiencing car rides. He is a little too energetic for very small children; dog-savvy kids aged 10 and up are probably a good fit. There’s so much to adore about Nick. He’s ready to bond with a family and be the best friend they could ask for. With a little investment of patience, structure and love, he will be an amazing canine companion ready to accompany his people anywhere. APPLY to adopt Nick at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Nick is being fostered in Lindstrom, MN. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Nick's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
