My Story

Meet Nova. Nova has had a rough start to her life, stranded out on the hot, dry Houston streets. Unfortunately for her, for who knows how long nobody batted an eye at this poor naked dog, suffering on the streets. Thankfully and finally, Nova was picked up and brought to the shelter... You'd think this was when she was rescued, however due to her hair loss from just dermatitis, the shelter placed her on the euthanasia list within just a few days. Farfel's Rescue received a plea email from our Houston rescue partners to save Nova's life, just hours from her scheduled euthanasia, and we knew we had to help her. We saw her potential that was ignored just because she doesn't look perfect. Nova was scooped up from the scary shelter, and placed immediately in a foster home. Nova has now been in a foster home for 3 months now, receiving medicated baths, coconut oil rub downs, and LOTS of love! Now her hair has grown back significantly, she is healthy and happy, and ready to find her forever home. Nova is a Husky, although we know it's hard to tell without her long fluffy coat. She has been fully treated for her skin condition, and now it is just a matter of time and tlc and soon her hair will be Colorado-winter-ready! Nova is only 1 year old, and 35 lbs. From Nova's foster: * * * * "Nova has been doing great! She settled in very nicely. Look at her glow up!! She has already grown back SO much hair and beauty!! Nova is such a sweetheart! She had a rough start to life but you would never know it from the way her tail never stops wagging and never ending love to give. She is such a fun girl! Nova loves to go swimming and run alongside friends at the park. Nova is great with all dogs and strangers, making her the perfect companion for any family. She’s also potty trained! When she’s not busy chasing after her favorite ball, she loves to cuddle up on the couch, keeping you company while you work or binge-watch your favorite shows. She sleeps all night quietly in the crate with no issues. She is young and eager to learn. She is treat motivated and wants to please!! She knows some basic commands such as "sit" and “no”. She is very people friendly and very dog friendly. Loves everyone! Greets neighbors & visitors politely. Very social. And she is an A+ cuddler!! Loves to be with you on your lap. Cuddles on the couch. She eats well, does great at the vet, and I've rarely heard her bark. Her favorite toys are soft plushy toys. Her favorite things to do are sniffing in the yard, playing with toys, or taking walks. Her favorite treats are pieces of chicken. She also rides great in the car. Her skin is starting to heal and she is looking so much better. She has beautiful blue eyes and such a sweet personality! I am sure once her skin heals and her fur grows back she will be an even more beautiful dog than she is now! She is a really sweet, wonderful pup!" * * * * We would love to see Nova in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's appropriately playful and fun-loving and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her a very important family member. She will be a wonderful companion for active, fun-loving individual or family who have the time and energy to give a Husky the proper exercise and stimulation that she needs! She would also fit in well with a family that works from a home-based office and loves to have a best companion to love up throughout the day. We feel that Nova is too social a girl to be left alone for the long hours of full-time employment outside of the home. She doesn't require another dog to be happy if her people are very present and involved...but does enjoy her canine relationships with playful and gentle dogs. Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement/force-free training. We therefore aren't willing to adopt out to a home that doesn't choose to offer this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area. Nova is up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She is not yet spayed, but Farfel's covers the full cost of her spay, which is required to finalize any adoption. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
