My Story

sweet small girl seeking fresh start and love! OLIVE OIL NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Olive Oil Best Guess for Breed: Terrier mix, maybe some rat terrier in there Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of January 2025 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 26 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested if you have them. Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here after completing heartworm treatment Special Adoption Considerations: Olive Oil is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Olive Oil is Looking For: This small sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. She's way out of the puppy yips and knows what the most important thing in life is - being safe and loved and under her own roof. Having her own home, her own humans is tops on her list. And sniffy walks and world exploration and a cushy dog bed and quality kibble - all those are also on the list. What do you say? Does Olive Oil get her fresh start with you? Are you her happily ever after? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!
