My Story

CILRA recently assisted with the rescue of some severely emaciated, mistreated and neglected Labs. We moved 3 Labs to foster homes and one of them was Ozzy. In addition to being starved, the Labs were kept locked in a house attic. At the time they were rescued, they weighed between 33-47 lbs. Ozzy is estimated to be about 4 years old, and is a very handsome chocolate Lab with a Big personality. He weighed about 45 lbs. when he was rescued, and since being in a stable foster home, he’s now a much healthier 89 lbs. He is current on his vaccinations and has been neutered. Ozzy has heartworms, and the treatment (at CILRA’s expense) has an excellent success rate but does require that he be kept in a restful, low-energy environment for several weeks. Ozzy is house-trained and crate-trained, and stays in his kennel when his foster family is gone and overnight. He is a goofy, active, fun-loving guy who is curious about everything around him. Ozzy needs a forever family where someone is home much of the time, has lots of patience, and can give him the love, attention, and continued training he needs. Because of his past, he’s essentially a grown puppy who is just now learning about life! Ozzy needs continued work on basic commands; he does well with "no" and “leave it”. He also sits when treats are involved, but gets VERY excited! He also knows "off", especially when it comes to surfing the kitchen counters – he needs more work to curb that enthusiasm. He does very well on-leash; he pulls a bit but eases off when he feels resistance. He’d be an amazing running buddy! Ozzy did well at the Vet’s office, and gets along well with his foster siblings. He plays with the dogs and ignores the cats - and loves to play keep-away from his Aussie pal! Ozzy would love having a buddy to play with in his forever home, and any siblings should be on the submissive side, and mealtimes would need to be kept separate. Ozzy loves toys and carries one around everywhere he goes. Just because of his energy and tendency to jump up, he’d do best with children over 11. He’s learning to be more comfortable with car rides, and does well once he’s in and the ride is underway. He will need a traditionally-fenced yard or an invisible fence. This happy boy is being fostered in Morocco, IN (northwestern Indiana).
