My Story

If you are interested in this girl please go to www.JCLDR.com and put in your application, no one is obligated to adopt by doing so, but it is the first good step for us to get to know you. We will then call and visit by phone. STATS, OVERVIEW: Piper is a 4 year old as of 2025 ; purebred Catahoula spayed female, fully vaccinated, weighs 78 pounds. We do have photos of Piper’s dam and sire and both really look Catahoula. Dad has papers mom does not. Piper is fed twice a day on Costco salmon and sweet potato formula dog food. She is good with the family’s male Catahoula but not with the Dane X Houla female. We are therefore saying no female dog interaction in her new home is advised. She means business with her dislike of said female. No cats, or small dogs. We feel she would do possibly ok in a home with a non competitive, good tempered male dog but Piper prefers slow introductions and really prefers to be an only dog focused on humans. Also no small children. She has been around older children, in their upper teens. She was good with their children. She came to them when she was 8 weeks old and so the children were that age when she first came and she adored them. She is a normal Catahoula on the leash, nose to the ground and go for it. She does sit when asked and responds to a break in focus when asked to re-focus, but she goes back to being a Catahoula, and she does follow basic commands and aims to please her handler in almost every situation. She is very smart, learns fast, wants to please once she knows and trusts you. She loves car rides and does well in manners. She loves water from a hose and entertains herself with it. Will also jump into the bathtub but no one has tested lake or river waters. She is great at the veterinarians, she is happy to go with them and no muzzling. Drawn blood goes well, no muzzle, and does nails well, but not do it with a grinder. She absolutely does not like the grinder. She is groomed regularly professionally and is a people person dog and all goes well as long as they leave the grinder off. Like most dogs she doesn’t like guns or fireworks, she shakes and sits next to her family for comfort. She loves toys but is possessive around other dogs with food and toys. She has never shown food or toy possessiveness with humans. She loves balls and especially the chuckit. Will bring it back too and will play till she wears you out. No stuffed toys with squeakers. She tears them up and that makes for bowel blockage danger. She is crate broke, and sleeps on a dog bed inside the crate. She is great with company and visitors and she is ok with sharing her people. She alerts that someone is coming but she is happy to see them. She is not a digger in the yard or a fence jumper or crawler. She can jump high and get on a retainer wall but she hasn’t tried go over the fence behind it. But the fence behind is tall. HISTORY: She was 8 weeks old and was from a back yard breeder. She has been her family ever since then. She does get along with the male dog in her home, just not the female. GOOD: She loves to cuddle with her people. She wants to be near her people. She is a bonded connected dog but not pushy and needy. She loves the closeness and humans are her job. This dog is the ideal companion dog. This is really a good dog.. she just need the stress removed and to be someone’s special dog. BAD: She is bonded to her human leaders, and the bad is that she doesn’t want to share with the Dane female. The dog reactions have been very tight and very bad. There were no serious lacerations but Piper won’t accept the Dane whatsoever and the Dane is nervous. The Dane is a coming senior and they have to be separated this way… rehoming is vital for safety.. sooner is better. UGLY: During the dog fights her adrenaline is high and she has growled at humans separating her, she is sort of defensive when she knows she has done wrong. Strong discipline or harsh words she is uncomfortable with it and will growl, it is not vicious but it a warning that she is afraid.. it is defensive fearfulness, fed by intense adrenaline and dislike for the other dog, she has never lunged at any humans or growled over corrections other than at that time during or after a dog fight. Normally when corrected it only takes light correction for her. Only during and after the dog fight when survival mode kicks in. But harsh correction should never be needed on this dog nor used.
