My Story

If youre a dog lover through and through, youve probably always dreamed of having a dog like Polly. Shes everything, the complete package- smart and highly trainable, dog friendly as can be, snuggly and sweet, attentive to her person but not overly clingy. Here at the rescue, Polly is a K9 Coach favorite, a special gold star only awarded to the most well-mannered and intelligent dogs. We think Polly is a Shepherd mix of some sort, but at an estimated one year old she only weighs 31 pounds. Thats why we call her Polly Pocket- Polly the Pocket Shepherd. Fall in love with Polly here: https://youtu.be/IgwdY6czuiA?feature=shared Polly is seriously amazing with her humans. Shes so attentive, but also engaged with the world around her. Our K9 coach Angel speaks about it in her adoption video! Polly is very trainable, and so treat-motivated that its easy to capture her attention. With other dogs, Polly is just a dream in every way. Shes playful and fun, but also so respectful of the other dogs. When a dog wants to play with her, its game on! Lots of running, bouncing and chase. However, when the other dogs in the yard have lost interest, or are doing their own thing, Polly is quick to pick a spot to lay down. Shell just lay there, observe and mind her manners. Shes so good with dogs that we use her as an assessment dog. This means she greets new intake dogs, teaches them that the rescue is a fun and safe place to be, and teaches our behavior team about the new dogs dog-to-dog interactions. Shes so valuable as an assessment dog because shes so well mannered, dog-friendly and submissive with other dogs. By participating in these assessments, Polly has met all sorts of dog personalities and breed types. More importantly, through these assessments, Polly has helped us save countless canine lives- shes a little doggy superhero. It goes without saying that she could definitely live in a forever home with other dogs! Something that really sets Polly apart is just how snuggly and affectionate she can be. This is a rare treat in intelligent dogs like herself. Shes not a dog thats distracted by affection, she wont interrupt a training sesh to kiss your face, shes not pushy with affection while youre busy, but when the time is right shes such a ham. She will literally jump into your arms if invited, and she loves to give sweet little kisses. She likes to be pet on her back and her shoulders. Personally, I like to pinch her cheeks. She will certainly make for a wonderful best friend. While we havent seen her with kids just yet, we think her gentle nature, her respectful attitude and wonderful manners would make her an excellent family dog for a home with older kids. We can absolutely test Polly with kids before her adoption, just ask! With kitties, Polly is perfectly polite. Here at the rescue, we cat tested Polly with our house cat Biggie. She wanted to play, and showed some affection, but wasnt overly interested or pushy with him. See her cat test for yourself in her video. We believe Polly could live with a dog-savvy kitty. Polly is ready for her happily ever after! Dont make her wait, apply today. We think she would be happiest in a home where she can really stretch her legs and keep herself entertained- maybe a house with a yard, or larger living quarters in general. She loves the couch, and requests a comfy one. Polly Pocket isnt too picky though, she really just wants a human or two (or three or four) to call her own. We are willing to test Polly with anything you need us to in order to ensure she is the perfect match for you! We can make most anything happen! Just let us know. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120.
