My Story

Meet Poppy! We are told her mom was a white GSD, dad is unknown- but we make no promises. Poppy is about 9/10 weeks and 11lbs. We are looking for a family w GSD experience and also whom resides in an owned, free standing home. No renters or condos/apts or townhomes due to potential breed. Here is what her foster mom has to say: Here’s a Day 4 update and observations: 1. She’s a great pup! (of course). Doing fairly well on the leash. 2. she does NOT like being in her crate, but after a couple minutes of throwing a tantrum she’s fine. 3. I can’t figure out what motivates her. She does NOT care for treats, she’s not into toys, and she’s not a snuggler (though last night she cuddled with me for the first time). She seems to be a very independent dog — so note that for her future owners. She needs someone willing to take time to train and discipline. She’s not just a fluffy cutie, she’s a smart cookie who has a stubborn streak. 4. During a tantrum she will throw back her head like a wolf and literally howl! it’s so funny. 5. She understands her place in the pack. She backs off my dog if given a low growl warning. Overall, she’s an awesome pup who, with the right owner, is going to turn into a Warrior Queen dog. Love her!! Below are the basics of how adoption from Palmetto Paws works as well as some information on this particular pup. Please read this in full prior to completing an application. Completing an application does not guarantee an adoption. -Please DO NOT complete an application if you are not ready to adopt immediately- we only consider applications for those ready and available on the Saturday of the week the application is submitted. If you would like to be considered to adopt from PPAR please complete the online application on the home page. Completing an application does not guarantee an adoption. We take many things into consideration when reviewing applications. The age to be considered for adoption is 25. As we receive many applications for our pups we will only be in touch with the selected applicant to arrange a meet/potential adoption. Adoptions are usually done on Saturdays as we are all volunteers who work full time during the week. Dogs reside in private foster homes. We do not host events and there is no opportunity to view multiple dogs. We will not consider incomplete applications. The question regarding heartworm disease must be answered in full. We feel all adopters should be knowledgeable about heartworm disease and the basics can be found online if you are unfamiliar with it. All current household pets must be up to date on vaccines, preventaives and be spayed/neutered for adoption consideration. We will not process applications that are not for a specific dog listed on Petfinder. We do not process and "hold" applications. We do not ship dogs and we do not arrange transports. All adopters must be present to complete the adoption. We do consider out of state applicants as long as the applicant is willing to come to Charleston to complete the adoption. If an adopter is approved we do a “meet and greet” with a specific dog or pup. If at the meet we all agree it’s a good match, then the adoption takes place at that time. Their is no opportunity to meet and adopt at a later date. Please keep in mind that we do our best to make an educated guess as to the breeds of our rescued pets. In rescue we rarely see the parents of the puppies, and even when we do, they are usually mixed breeds as well. We will never promise a particular breed or adult size. We do our best to put all info we have in the bio. We will not respond to inquires regarding information that is already detailed in the bio. Adoptable pets are spayed/neutered (unless the rescue Veterinarian deems the pup/dog will need to be adopted on a SN contract), have age appropriate vaccines, are current on hw and flea preventatives and microchipped. All adopters are provided with a medical summary, a new collar and leash, a few toys and chews, food to get started, an opportunity to go over basic training/pet care and help shopping for supplies if needed. If interested in adoption please submit an application! The application is found on our home page at palmettopaws.petfinder.com
