My Story

General Notes | Looking for the PERFECT loyal dog? Teddy is your boy! Teddy will be the most obedient boy that will never leave your side. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Teddy is a fun loving pup! He LOVES to play with toys, crinkle ones are his favorite, and go for swims. If there is water nearby, Teddy will find it! He LOVES every person he meets. His butt wiggles with excitement anytime a human is around. He is just so happy he was saved by MHLRM. Do you need a hiking companion or running buddy? Or better yet, does your dog need a BFF to romp with? Then Teddy is your guy! Teddy, or Teddy Bear is an energetic, fun-loving dog who wants to play all day. Teddy is a loyal sweetheart who wants to attach himself to anyone and everyone, especially if they're doing something fun. He's also an outstanding shadow to stick right by you, he announces when someone is knocking at our door, and most importantly he's an amazing personal coach to help motivate you to go for a run, ride the bike, or hike a 14-er. He wants to spend quality time doing something active. While he enjoys a very active lifestyle, his current routine does include working from home, which is fine as long as there's still time to play fetch or go for a walk during a lunch break. After a good run or romp, Teddy loves nothing more than to cuddle with you on the couch. Forget the weighted blanket - let Teddy take care of it! If you're on the couch, he wants to lay right on your lap. He's the best 85 lbs lap dog you've ever met. Story | He was brought into a Texas shelter as a stray. He is missing fur on the side of his body. The vet believes possibly from a chemical burn and says the hair may or may not grow back. Some hair follicles grew-in backwards over injuries. Although it looks like his fur is standing up, it is really just a cowlick! Other Dogs | Wonderful! Teddy would LOVE to have a sibling doggo to play with every day! Teddy is polite with other dogs he has met while on leash and his tail is always wagging telling other dogs he wants to say "hi!" Cats | YES!!! He currently lives with two cats, whom he wishes were more excited to play. Sometimes Teddy's energy and size can be more than our cats enjoy - he wants to play, but he's never chased our cats. Teddy is perfectly happy to let his feline friends do their own thing. Children | Teddy currently lives with a small 3yo, and can be very sweet with her. Still, he gets excited easily and because he's a larger dog he can end up becoming a bit much for small kiddos. He might do better in a house with older kids who are a bit bigger. Teddy doesn't realize his size, so he may accidentally step on some toes. Training | Teddy recently started learning basic commands and is a fast learner. He's recently picked up sit, down, stay. Teddy is early in this training process and like many young enthusiastic doggos still learning how to be the best boy, he sometimes forgets his new commands when he gets excited. Treats and praise and consistency are helping this smart boy to make progress in training. Teddy is fantastic in the crate! He will freely go into his crate if you toss a treat in and he then immediately lays down and sleeps without a peep. He sleeps all night in his crate on the main floor of the house and quietly waits until you get up in the morning to let him out. He is fully house-trained. Leash | Teddy loves going outside, which typically requires the leash. He has been working on pulling, and still has a bit of an improvement to make. He enjoys wearing his harness on walks & runs, which can help. Activity Level | Teddy is an energetic athletic boy and loves to play in his yard. His current routine includes a 2-3 mile run in the morning and a 3-5 mile run in the evenings with some yard play time in between. He has the ability to be a work-from-home companion - he settles down during that time, but Teddy's ideal adopter is someone active who loves to walk, run, hike, swim, and play outside! Health Notes | Healthy! Teddy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm NEGATIVE! Before coming to MHLRM, Teddy appears to have suffered some sort of burn which left him with a rather large bald patch on his side and a few smaller bald spots on his back. This does not slow Teddy down at all! He just needs a bit of sunscreen sprayed on before an extended period of time in the sun, and he really loves having an unscented lotion applied to those bald spots at night. His current vet has no concerns about these bald spots. Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
