My Story

Location: Houston, TX Introducing Ranger! This tall, dark & handsome boy is well on his way to being a perfect dog! He is young (vet thinks maybe around 2 yrs old} and still full of puppy energy, so a large dog to play with would make him happy. He met some kids and liked them, but is also not very aware of his size, so young children might not be a good fit. He is dog friendly and shares his foster home with an older female Dane and has not shown any food or toy aggression. Has been friendly with the cats in his foster home, but is so excited about them that he forgets to approach them slowly and give them their space. He is learning though! He would do fine with dog-savvy cats. Is fully house trained, and does great in the car and at the vet. He is smart and eager to please, he is very responsive to training. He is left to free roam and doesn't get into anything, except maybe food scraps left on the counter! He has never tried to get on any furniture. He is perfectly happy lying on his bed or the floor. He plays with the bones and toys he is given and doesn’t bother other things in the house. He can fetch and LOVES to play tug-o-war. His favorite inside toy is his stuffed piggy. He also loves to have a blanket and will carry it around the house to cuddle with. Knows Sit, Lie on your Bed, Down, Drop It, Shake, and responds to other phrases like Out of the Kitchen. He will sit and wait to be told Okay before eating. Comes when you call him in the yard. He is doing really well on his leash skills and will sit so you can put on his Gentle Leader. He has had a couple of loose dogs run up to him and he was friendly with them. Ranger lovers to be with his people. He thinks he can fit anywhere and will crawl under a desk or table to lie at your feet. The shelter was scary for him, so he needs help building trust and learning that people are friendly. When someone tries to talk to him or approach him before he is ready he will bark. He warms up quickly though and will be leaning on them for ear rubs after a few minutes. This sweet boy will be a super star with more time and training!
