My Story

Rocket Male Maltese Mix 4 y.o. 12 pounds Neutered, heart worm negative and on prevention, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations Adoption Fee: $500 Rocket (aka ‘Rocky’) was found stray and heart worm positive. He has been under going treatment for heart worms and has received the “gold standard” of care to treat the condition. It is a very slow process involving 3+ months of treatment while being restricted to a crate or on leash for brief walks to restrict his level of activity. He has finished the treatment and only has a couple of weeks left where his activity needs to be limited. After the go ahead from the vet he will be able to resume normal activity and we’re sure he will be thrilled to be able to have off leash time. Rocket has been with his fosters now for almost 2 months. He is an energetic young 12 pound guy. His foster family has observed that he gets along well with every person and dog he encounters, including their dog, Belle, with whom he has shared space for the last few weeks. He has not had the opportunity to be near cats. He seems quite intelligent, loving, and good natured, and does not bark excessively. He is not 100% housebroken but has improved quickly, and is now very dependable as long as he has adequate outside time. Rocket is very sweet and wants to bond with people and loves nothing better than to be cuddled and loved. He also can be quite assertive, wants to explore, has learned to leash walk, and loves his walks. He adores his foster sister and would do well with another dog in the house. He hasn’t been around children, but there is no reason to think that would be a problem. He is completely kennel trained and willingly goes into his kennel. He sleeps well on the bed with his human but could probably be trained otherwise. ** Please note: Due to their size, our dogs are not suitable for homes with children under 5. The only way to find out if one of our pups will be a good fit in your home is to fill out the online application on the Lil Paws website. Lil Paws is a very small organization, our volunteer time is reserved for interested persons who have filled out the application to adopt. We do not have a facility, all dogs are fostered in the homes of our volunteers. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue and other Petite Paws, please visit our website at www.lilpaws.org and fill out an adoption application. This is the first step in our adoption process. Our goal is to place our dogs in safe, stable and loving homes in the Austin Metropolitan area. Thanks for looking! Lil' Paws Maltese Rescue and other Petite Paws depends on donations to keep the dogs in our program healthy. Many health issues are taken care of before a dog leaves a rescue: spaying, neutering, immunizations, dental care, and in some cases major surgery. Because of the cost of this care, donations are essential to enable us to continue our work. If you would like to show appreciation for what we do and help us continue to do it please go to our website homepage and click the donate button. We thank you in advance for your support.
